0:51 The way he says this is so layered. It adds more character to Odin; proud of his son yet regretful that he shares his flaws. But I think it’s a moment that would mean a lot to Loki’s development if it was kept, since Odin is taking some responsibility as a parent for Loki’s shortcomings.

I overall preferred what we got, but I wish they had kept the following elements: -Odin's words explicitly acknowledging Loki as a son -Odin's transferring of his power to Thor -Loki's more visceral reaction to Odin dying
@TenguXil

Whilst I agree, I don't think it's the right time for Thor to have the power of Odin. Specially since he would've gone to sakar and been at the mercy of a small electric device which is already hard to believe stuns a thunder god. Plus they haven't explained or gone into the depths of Odin's power the way I've heard it exist in the comics, perhaps that's coming later. Now that Thor realises he isn't just powerful because of his weapon it'll hopefully be better too.
@micmacha

@@TenguXil Marvel has actually announced a Thor 5 ("Godfall") coming in 2027, but we barely know anything about it yet and apparently neither do they. Evidently we'll have Loki at least one more time, though his story looks pretty complete as is; and maybe we can round out some of these lingering bits of lore with Thor.
@TenguXil
@TenguXil Жыл бұрын
@@micmacha with the current state of marvel we can only hope they get to that point and actually do it some justice. Love and thunder really needed a toning down on the comedy sides in my opinion, though I'm not sure what else they can do for him. They've a shopping list of things he's lost already, perhaps he needs an arc where he's finally ready to take the mantle of king and protect the realms. He failed to do that when Thanos snapped which irked me, maybe the entity that became the kid has some intentions or it'll be to do with eternals/celestials. Who knows :D

this scene makes so much more sense to me than what they put in the movie: 1) I never liked the fact that Odin just died and faded away (ala Yoda)... and also that Thor and Loki just happened to arrive there at the exact moment when his life was coming to an end............... Hela killing Odin seems more realistic and adds so much more to the Hela character. 2) Odin passing on his powers to Thor clears up a big plot hole in the MCU... it explains how Thor is so much more powerful in Ragnarok than in the previous movies. one thing that doesn't change is the fact that Cate Blanchett was fantastic as Hela... too bad we only got her for one movie

Points taking, but it wouldn't have sir well with the movie. The acting, comparing to the original one was inferno. The dialogues felt like it was written by amateurs. No, matter how good an actor is, if the lines are bad, they can't make it better.
@DrakeOola
@DrakeOola Ай бұрын
@@rexefe559 Yeah, thank god they removed this scene, the dialog is so unnatural and awkward. They stumble across their father who's apparently crazy like an escaped mental patient now and then they just stand there quietly listening to him rambling on... Him just dying and fading away was done well in the movie but they needed to add a better back story like him passing his powers on to thor before randomly turning into dust because apparently gods just do that when they reach "old age" even though we didn't have any hints in any previous movie that he was reaching the end. Horrible way to convey it to the audience with just "and then he turned to dust because reasons...", they should've encountered hela first, get their butts whooped by her, mjolnir breaks, and then odin shows up at last minute to save them and take them somewhere safe after getting mortally wounded in the process. Then they can have the emotional scene of him passing his powers on to thor because he has to complete the prophecy where thor needs to have odins remaining power to even stand a chance. We get to have a short but badass scene of odin vs hela before he warps them to the grassy cliff and explains who hela is and what needs to be done and then the rest of the movie can continue like normal, she shows up, they warp to asgard, etc...

Asgardians become more powerful after getting old. That means Odin was most powerful then. So the original scene makes more sense where he wasn't murdered but he accepted the time of departure and he passed on the throne to his sons. But yeah the original scene should have been more detailed.
@DrakeOola
@DrakeOola Ай бұрын
It's good this version got cut because the dialog is awkward as hell but they really needed to add more of a back story to the original scene instead of just slapping the audience with "and then he died and turned to dust because reasons..." even though there wasn't any hint he was reaching "old age" near the end of his lifespan and not even so much of a hint that gods could even die of "old age" to begin with. They need to fix the dialog in this scene, have loki/thor confront hela first where mjorlnir breaks and they get their asses whooped and then odin appears out of nowhere, nearly goes toe to toe with hela before grabbing thor/loki and fleeing after getting mortally wounded. Odin could then give us a backstory of who hela is, explain to thor that he needs to fulfill the prophecy but none of them are strong enough unless odin gives his powers to thor sacrificing himself, and then we can get the whole emotional scene where he turns to dust and an actual explanation of why and the movie goes on as normal. Far better than just "What the hell, why'd he turn to dust??" and "Gods just do that, apparently..."

Odin actually giving Thor his King Power (as in, the Odinforce) makes every other scene where a character makes a vague reference to Thor's new found power more sensible. Every spike in power Thor has relates to him having a vision of his father, Valkyrie after seeing Thor's fight with the Hulk says him and Hela get their power from Asgard and so on. It's kinda weird we didn't get something akin to this more visible transference of power, but I suppose in the comics when the same happens Odin just dies and Thor suddenly has his powers too.

I would have liked him to grant Thor his power just before he fades away. And I would have liked Loki to have a more nuanced reaction to Odin's death. the one in the movie is more beautiful to watch, but for some reason I find this version more appropriate, more real-life gritty, because often its when we / someone we know hit rock bottom that they realize the life lessons and appreciate their blessings. you can see a sampling of these with the wonderfully acted scenes between Chris, Tom and Sir Anthony. being in a stinky alley doesn't mask the fact that in the end, Odin becomes human and fully realizes what it's like, why both Thor and Loki has affinity for Midgard. remember Odin was so condescending of humans in Thor2, I'm pretty sure there were more Odin scenes as an old man around Earth, would've loved to have seen that so that he would at least have a character arc.

@@blusafe1I find it as Odin apologizing to Loki. To be fair, Loki caused a lot of shit for Odin and Asgard, so if he throws a few digs here and there then yeah it’s warranted. But he’s basically saying that he didn’t do enough to raise him right, so that’s why he said he failed them. He’s also trying to hammer it down Loki’s mind that Odin sees him as a son, and not as a means to bring about peace towards the Jotunn

This scene would’ve been great in the movie, but it would’ve heavily altered Thor’s visions of Odin when he was fighting the hulk and his melee with Hela.
