THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS has been seriously under represented in film / video adaptations. I caught this by accident on television many years ago. It really took me by surprise how cleverly it was done and completely true to the book in its spirit. (The other good one for me was a 1973 BBC production with a young Sarah Sutton) Kate is so beautiful and correctly' Alice' in this!

Penelope Wilton and Ian Holm as the White Queen and White Knight respectively were always my favorite parts of this film. Love Kate Beckinsale's performance, too. A wonderful actress, as always. For those asking why Alice is an adult: my guess is that Alice's mother is dreaming of being the character in the book since she and her daughter had been reading the story a bit each night. Everyone's probably had a similar experience: watching a series on TV (or Netflix, Hulu, etc.) or reading a book and start dreaming about it as you're viewing or reading.
@garyhughes16645 жыл бұрын
In my view, this is the best adaptation of the Alice story that there is. I bought it for my children when it first came out and rediscovering it here, all these years later, bring back those wonderful memories of watching it first time round. Thanks for uploading. Lots of fun and silliness, but wonderfully done.
@lizzynuytten55388 жыл бұрын
People talk about this movie having a grown up Alice whereas in the first one she's a child. If anyone paid attention she's reading a story to her daughter which would make her the main character so to others she's a child to us she's an adult

For people who compare Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass to Wizard of Oz they are barely similar. True both stem from dreams but both covey different messages. Also, in Alice in Wonderland Alice is a child and Through the Looking Glass Alice is older but in The Wizard of Oz Dorothy is older and in Return to Oz Dorothy is a much younger child. Alice in Wonderland seems more like the affect of drugs and a drug induced dream whereas Wizard of Oz is a dream from a bump on the head. Alice in Wonderland is nonsense and really has no message whereas Wizard of Oz makes Dorothy realize home is better than being alone

how did Alice's hair style and clothing change in every next scene?

Josephine Medina I think part of it is she is in Wonderland - a world of nonsense - and she is also inside her own imagination and so every time she goes through those portals as she passes from square to square she transforms into a new expression of who she is in her imagination until finally she is a queen.

CeltycSparrow The portals represent, quite cleverly, Alice moving from square to square in a chess game. Apparently a chess expert worked out the moves and it all makes perfect good sense in a chess match. Needless to say, Carroll was a great chess player. I see you recognized that; your remarks are very interesting. Methinks a psychiatrist would have a field-day interpreting Alice.
