I haven’t straightened my hair for 4 years but i recently decided to change it up for prom. After prom i decided to wear my hair straight for the rest of the month because it was easier to maintain, but i made the mistake of restraightening it every other day to touch it up. I washed it yesterday and found that most of my ends and some of my top layer had extreme heat damage and were almost completely straight. I was panicking because I have so much pride in my curly hair and thought it was for sure ruined. In desperation to immediately fix it I started searching for a curly cut video and came across this. I cannot express how happy I am with the results. I went from tears to tears of joy. This cut has made my hair so much better and given me back the volume I want. Thank you so much Ashley. I don't get it. You kinda skipped over the part about how you use the guide as you move towards the bottom. Do you hold it sideways and cut every piece to the same length as the guide?

So basically... the top piece is your guide for the next section you'll cut. Then using the freshly cut piece which becomes your new guide for the next(not the top original guide). And do that while moving downwards... That's how the layers happen

Gorgeous! I noticed on one side, you pulled the hair out to the side to cut and then the other side, you pulled up. I'm guessing it doesnt make a difference. Is that right? My hair is so heavy and I need to do something to lighten it asap!

After you cut the guide...everything should match up with the guide. Thats how you know how much to cut. Make sure to hold the hair straight out though!

I tried and it didn’t turn out good. I’m so confused on the other layers. I did the top and it looks like I’m a mushroom. Like it don’t blend into layers just that big chunk cut then straight to the bottom of my hair. How do I fix this I need a good detail of it please. I just want mine to look similar to yours🥺😍every time I get my hair cut professionally they don’t do it right. They give me no layers/body so that’s why I attempted it myself.

You might want to check out KZbinr Curls by Shirlz. She’s not a trained stylist, but she’s is an excellent teacher. During the pandemic, I did my first ever DIY haircut following Shirlz and I won’t go back to the stylist ever again because it’s my best cut ever! She explains in much greater detail and seems very professional.

I’m glad it was helpful 🤗. I bleached it first to lift the color and then put a demi permanent brown/honey color on top. Toned it at the end because it was a bit too bright.
