miranda jackson i’m not sure Who says that but if they said it they might mean oil and curly hair while styling is a no because curly hair needs oil the most because curly hair is prone to be dry! I would never use oil on my hair the days that I’m styling it curly but on off days before wash days I always pack in the oil

Using oil before shampooing is actually beneficial because it protects the natural hair from drying out.

From what I know, it's especially normal for curly hair but another type of hair might need it, my friend's hair looks weird if she doesn't wash it daily. If yours looks fine, it's good.
