Thank you for this great advice! I've been experiencing the same with my pilea, however I noticed how the newer leaves were curled but then after a few days they would flattened. This is my confirmation that I'm doing right by my plant.

This is happening to all my new leaves. I have 5 that are curled and even the new one coming up that’s still sticking straight up is already starting to curl. It’s all on the bottom of them curling backwards.

What about leaves that were flat when you got the plant but are starting to curl now? 🤔 so many KZbin videos with gorgeous pileas with flat leaves and mine are curling for no reason 🥺

Sounds like it’s reacting to its new environment and care, even though I’m sure it’s good, nothing matches the nursery conditions they were grown in. Some people have such good luck with them and others have issues like this. I have a feeling it is just a matter of finding it’s happy place in your home. Good luck with yours! 🌱🌱🌱

@@PleasantPrickles thanks!! I've watered it Sunday, today is Wednesday and the water meter says it's almost dry. Feels dry to my thumb too. Do they require water so often?
@PleasantPrickles3 жыл бұрын
@@OzmaOfOzz I have learned to let my indoor plants dry out and then deep water them. If you see it drooping, definitely water now, but if not wait another couple of days. Or if it’s outside in the heat or your house is hot maybe twice a week would be good? Kind of depends on the conditions it is in. 🌱😀🌱

Thanks for a great video! My Pilea Peperomioides' leaves aren't really curling. They're just a tiny bit bowed! I've only had this plant a few weeks. I've heard & read some other plant people talking about the leaves of their pilea plants curling. I'm so thankful that this is one less thing for me to be concerned about! Thanks! 🌱💜

I believe it is the summer heat that does this because the weather has cooled down where I am and the new leaves are now growing perfectly flat while the leaves that curled are still not perfect. It is a waiting game to see if my deformed leaves correct themselves in time, they have a little with my help pushing them inside out.
@PleasantPrickles6 жыл бұрын
Richard Portelli thanks for letting me know this. I have since “restarted” mine in water, not because of the curly leaves, but because it would start babies and then they would disappear. So I realized the root system wasn’t very big. So...I’ll have to see if this helps all of its issues. I’ll keep an eye on the temperature now too. I’ll be doing an update video on mine soon. Glad to know yours is doing well, and thanks for watching!

I also re potted mine into a terracotta pot and added about 30% perlite. It really likes the extra air for its roots to grow rapidly.

Is this still your opinion? Or have you noticed something different?
@PleasantPrickles6 жыл бұрын
Krystal Everett it was my opinion, but I have since restarted my plant in water, not because of the curly leaves, but because the baby plantlets that it kept producing didn’t thrive. When I took it out of the pot there was not a good root system, so I restarted it by cutting it and rooting it in water and have now replanted it in soil and it’s new leaves are flatter. I think it’s pulling up more nutrients with stronger roots, I’m about to post a plant tour this week in which I show how it’s doing now. Thanks for watching.

Krystal Everett I think I’m going to probably do an update video as well in the near future.

Mine are curling and falling off. I have a stem with 2 "larger" leaves and starting to put out new leaves. This plant did amazing outside in summer in indiana, high humidity facing east, now I've brought it in again it's bad bad bad. I dont know what to do. It's been in a north window, and under re lights, purple lights and a combo of white, red and purple and nothing. Its planted in a terracotta pot, and did bad inside last year when I bought it at a big box store, but when I sat it outside it did great. Now it's bad. I've read about calcium deficiency can cause curling as well. I'm about to pull mine out and check the roots and repot it in another pot with maybe a mix of soil and see what happens. I just dont know what to do. I've had it for almost a year and everytime its inside it does bad, but outside thrives. You would think under grow lights it would perk up but it's just not.

I have two little ones left, but I can’t seem to get these plants to thrive in my home either. I don’t have great light. I’m not sure why some people think it’s an easy plant, it’s not for me ( you’re not alone). Maybe it’s fresh air they like? I know orchids like to have moving air around them, and sometimes people will put a fan in the room with them. Haven’t tried that yet myself, though. I have learned to only keep buying plants I know like my house, like Sansevierias and not every plant that I see on Instagram or KZbin. Lol! I hope your Pilea pep. hangs in there until it can go back outside. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱😀

@@PleasantPrickles thank you !!! I dont get it either. Someone that showed pictures of AMAZING plants with lots of babies said they keep theirs in "filtered light" and "not in the window sill" and in a south/east window and theirs grows like crazy. To be honest, when mine was outside on my porch, it's an open porch with a huge tree in the neghibor's yard, and it was sitting on this part of my porch a pillar for the roof used to be on, and its facing east and the big tree is toward the south....so I'm also wondering if something east/south window wouldn't be good?! I am at a loss. Since I got mine a year ago at meijer (big box store) It has never thrived until it got outside. And I've read the comments on your videos people are talking weather in the 50/60's, but mine LOVED the 90 sometimes 98 with 98 humidity, and I'd water every 10 days or so, and fertilised a couple times and it was amazing. It's been inside now about 2 months and its lost every long leave but 2 and those are curled and wilting as i type. But i have baby leaves coming up at the stem, so it's not dead dead. I'm thinking it IS humidity. They had these dome things for plants at meijer where the bottom part was wood, and it has a glass dome thing over top to set plants in for humidity. I think it was like 13 dollars or so. I think I'm going to get one and try it. I bought these AMAZING clip on plant lights from amazon for 22, they have like 3 tenticles of lights you can move around and they have 8 setting for intentisy, and 3 settings for red light, purple, and purple red and white and you clip the, on the side of the table or plant stand, and they even have a timer, and are great for 22.00. Since I dont have a good east/south window I am going to try the glass dome with the lights and see if that could work. I just dont see how I am going to limp this one along for another 4 months. Lol What window do you keep yours in?!

Here is the link to the lights I was telling you about. Not sure what kind of plants you have or want, but I've found these have did wondering for me. Also, if you're a cactus fan, if you have a desert cactus, the trick is to leave it out all summer, and let nature take care of it, and then bring it inside in the winter and dont water it until right before you take it outside in spring. (When you water have heavy fertilizer in it) then let nature take it. I've got a donkey tail that's now over 5ft and a couple others that are 3ft after just a couple years. I know it's off not to water , but it's worked for the past 4 years for me and about 25 desert cactus....now the other ones , I'm still working on....if I could keep a poinsettia alive I'd be thrilled lol.

I know this is a late post but I need help... My Pilea keeps loosing leaves. The leaf itself starts to dry and then it dries out even while the stem is green. The plant itself doesn’t shoot stems or leaves from the sides. Only from the top. So it keeps getting taller and it has at the most 4 leaves on it. I water it only when I feel the dirt is dry. Help! What am I doing wrong?
@PleasantPrickles5 жыл бұрын
Laura Rowe well, for one thing, I discovered there are different kinds of Pilea peperomioides. After this video, I saw a sturdier type at my grocery store and I bought it. The new ones I got are so much easier than the first one I got off eBay from Canada, and I don’t have to fuss over them at all! Sounds like you may have the fussy type like my original plant was. The new ones I found are stockier with thicker leaves and not so leggy. Sounds like you are watering it correctly. I did notice that mine seem to be happier on a sunny window sill. I did a later video showing both types, if you are interested. Good luck! 🍀

I had the same issue for a long time and could not figure it out. I have 2 PP and both were doing the same. The bottom leaves were just dying off. What worked for me was placing it in a brighter spot. I have not lost a leaf since. I know that is what it is after loosing many, many leaves. I also highly recommend terracotta pots. They like to be watered thoroughly but not stay wet and terracotta is perfect for this.
