I'm recently getting interested in clip-in extensions, but my hair is really short, shorter than this because I cut it two months ago, and I don't ever use any kind of heat on it which is how I've avoided split-ends for years. A late comment but i think to prevent any heat damage to your hair was to just have it braided then clip in the extensions with an lace closure to finish it off
