That's just how Canadian brought ups are. I had a canadian born punjabi classmate when I had just moved to canada. When he spoke punjabi, he spoke so theth that you wouldn't be able to guess if he spoke even a word of English. When he spoke English, you wouldn't be able to tell if he knew any punjabi word at all. Neeru here is not even close to him lol.

Yes punjabi n sindi r indeed sister languages( someone in comments rightly said) so is dogri etc. Some Common words in sindi n punjabi Mee(Rain), Vas (Settles), Visār (Forget), Thulli (Fat), Challi / Charri (Crazy), Beli (Friend), Veri (Enemy), Khund (Sugar), Asān / Asi (Us), Puttar / Dhi (Son / Daughter), etc, etc. Punjabi and Sindhi also both tend to use the shorter vowel when a longer vowel is used Hindi/Urdu. For example: Kaan is Kan, Haath is Hath, Aadhaa is Adh, Neend is Nind, Mooch is Much. They both also retain the older use of the V instead of the of the B. “Beech” is “Vich”, “Bichara” is “Vichara”, “Baj” is “Vaj”, “Bas” is “Vas” and so on.
