I'm not 100% happy with this video, as its is not an exact side by side (I don't have 4 DVR's that I can place onboard) and I had some bad luck: tech issues which prevented me using the Toothless2 on the lowlight flight and also missing DVR footage for the Phoenix2 in very dark conditions. I also wanted to perform a night flight but it got really foggy the night I had planned on doing it. This is just the best I could do for now with the time and resources I have available at the moment 🤷🏻‍♂️ I hope it's still useful to help you make a decision on which you prefer. I decided not to give my own opinion and let people decide for themselves. For daytime flying I really can't imagine you'd be disappointed with any of the 4, I can see why they all appeared as peoples favourites, but for night flying you'd want to be more selective.

I love how the Ratel goes green when in night mode. Looks like proper military night vision. For the past year or so I've exclusively used the Ratel's on all my builds, although recently I've started using a Phoenix 2. Can't say I've noticed a whole lot of difference yet, they're both excellent

I have to be honest - I know that Analog and digital are very different, but the Runcam phoenix 2 is about as close to perfect as I think we'll ever get out of analog, up until the very latest hours of the night. Even under moonlight and streetlights, I'm easily able to see everything and fly. It is amazing how far technology has come !

my favorite cam Phoenix 2 seems other cams have this shimmering effect around edge's of objects drives me crazy the Phoenix doesn't have that and the lens glare colors are so cool looking

The colours and clarity of the phoenix 2 are amazing, however I just can’t get used to its fisheye. For me, it’s really hard to get a sense of depth with it.

I fly the Ratel and the Toothless2 on a few planes and IMO they are pretty equal, just a matter of what is available from my favorite vendor, ReadyMadeRC, when I need the next camera. I will add that one thing I have noticed is that the B/W mode on these "starlight" cameras seems very laggy, but the color performance is so good you don't need to switch to B/W anyway. Good demos of these cameras.

Thanks 😃 both very good and both Ratel and Toothless 2 are going on my Mini Crosswind (toothless will be a tail cam). Someone did a latency test on the Cat2 and even in B&W it is super low latency, so if you do a lot of night flying it's one to look into for sure. Cheers

I like the ratel still.. I have a baby ratel (no where near as good as regular ratel). Its day time view is beautiful and being able to still see when it gets dark is nice

I like the Phoenix 2, though the colors seem a little saturated. The Ratel looks like it has better color representation, and a bit brighter image than the Toothless 2. I have a Phoenix 2, but haven't used it, yet, and other than the color, I like the looks of the image in your comparison. If I was looking to buy one for the first time, I would probably choose the Ratel from this. As for the dark, I'd pick the Cat2 hands down, just because it's black-and-white for better contrast.

looking for latency test.. I really liked image from my ratel/phoenix 2 but latency feels pretty bad. I smashed my predator 4 but seemed like the best balance of quality/latency. Gonna try a predator 5 next.

Can't say i'd noticed any latency issues, but then I'm not using them for proximity on a Mini Drak or anything, more on cruisers. My P5 is fitted to my new big Drak which is still being built.

Yes. You don’t need a flight controller or osd to fly FPV. Just connect the camera to a vtx and a power source.

It's a Ratel for me, all day long...In bright conditions, I turn down the colour saturation a little, but it's just a good all rounder I find..

I'm interested in building an FPV drone, and I noticed your cameras all are displaying angle HUD, though I can see you mounted the cameras on a plane. Is this information fed to the camera with a component I can buy and attach on an FPV drone?

Hi, it’s all about the FC (flight controller). The camera feeds the image to the FC, which overlays the OSD (on screen display) and outputs it to the video transmitter that sends the video back to you.

I own both ratel and phoenix 2. And i've never seen their picture as good as you show. How is that possible? I am using stock settings. Can it be just my EV800D with inferior screen and DVR resolution?

I don't know how good or bad the EV800D goggles are but if the screens and DVR are bad quality then you won't get the best out of the cameras. I'm using stock settings on these cameras and there is no post editing to the image other than laying them out in a grid format. Cheers

That's a difficult call! I think it's between the ratel and predator 5 for me.... the predator seemed to show more detail, but the colours looked more natural with the ratel. I'm in the market for a couple of new cameras, and I can't decide!

Spot on, the Predator has excellent detail but I feel like the colour may need some setting adjustments. I'm currently building a big Drak and the Predator will be going in that. Hopefully with some more natural colours once adjusted. The Ratel is a great all rounder straight out of the box and it's going on my Mini Crosswind which is close to being ready to maiden 😎 Let me know which camera you go for in the end. Cheers

For day time I think I prefer the Ratel. These cameras are all very good so it just comes down to personal preference in the end I think. I used the Ratel on my latest build, but I also used the toothless 2 as a tail cam :)

Predator stock settings looks bizarre

Predator looks too saturated. Althoigh i have a pheonix 2 and it doesn't look that good compared to this video. The ratel is also really nice image

Ratel is probably my personal favourite out of these. You can adjust the settings to improve saturation etc. I've changed no settings or done any editing so your Phoenix 2 should look very similar to mine. cheers

Best camera is the old Micro Eagle. The new cameras have to much FOV for me, and the new micro eagle 3 does not even have PAL, so the image looks very low resolution.

Interesting, this never popped up on the long list of suggestions. You could always switch out the lens on these cameras to get the FOV you're after 😃 Cheers
