If you're not hitting harder than that with shadowbolt you either have a bad raidcomp for shadow or you need a lot more spellpower:P We run 4 locks 1 spriest, I regularly crit 5.5k+ with shadowbolts:)

@@huntermartin Ye haven't had a good DMF run since I got most of my Nax gear, lost worldbuffs on Maexxna last week. Still missing some big pieces of gear though, so not sure if I'll hit 6.8:O 5.5 is without DMF though, so should get above 6k atleast:)

The reasons are several, but to name a few: - The tanks are able hold threat against Searing Pain. This one is big. Searing Pain will cause the Warlock to pull aggro in any regular raid. However, it has a faster cast than Shadow Bolt, even if it's less efficient overall, speed counts in a speedrun. They're likely also using the threat reduction bonuses from Tier 3 sets. - With only two warlocks in the raid, there's more incentives to go fire and less to go shadow. There's no shadow priest to give them shadow weaving, and spending a curse slot on curse of shadows to benefit two players is a waste of a precious debuff slot. - Conversely, fire warlocks benefit from Improved Scorch (from the Mages, there's several in the raid) and get an extra debuff slot (since they only need to apply curse of elements/recklessness) allowing them to cast Immolate on all bosses. - The proper fire spec build (Demonic Sacrifice / Emberstorm) has tons of free crit on searing pain, further closing the gap between fire and shadow specs - again, provided your tanks can hold aggro against it. More casts which crit more often mean the overall damage will be close if not the same.

none of that information is really pertinent to a warlocks playstyle. the only thing important for Nm in this run is to get his curse up asap and start dealing damage. Raid comp is known way ahead of time, raid HP is only really relevant for healers, in a run like this mana isn't a problem since the healers and mages are top tier and will use consumables, water walk, etc to stay topped up the whole run. His UI is just for doing damage with as little distractions as possible; trinket menu, nameplates, threat meter, damage meter. Nothing else matters

2 warlocks = fire much better, as you need 3-4 locks+ spriest to get most out of the shadow bolts.

@@rwndae both of you should if its 1 more,, but also depends on your gear of course, need lots of crit (world buffs). If you both do it, no need for CoS (not likely getting a possibility to get that up anyway with 2), and you both can smack up immolates without buggering the debuff slots.

He's doing it because he's there to put up his curse and speed running. Fewer locks and no CoS. Kills are so well-coordinated and fast that the spec enables slightly better aoe. Other guilds you'll have issues with the threat of searing pain, and aoe worsens with longer kill times. It's also outright stupid to think fire is good phase 1 and 2 where MC and BWL are the main raid tiers and have fire immune or highher fire resistant bosses
