Namibia plans to cull 723 wild animals, including elephants and hippos, due to a severe drought affecting nearly half its population. The drought, exacerbated by an El Niño event and climate change, has led to extreme food shortages and rising prices. The culling aims to provide meat and prevent wildlife from migrating and clashing with humans, while also managing grazing pressure. Although killing wild animals for meat is common in some regions, Namibia's approach is justified by its constitutional mandate and should be sustainable and humane, according to experts.
