@@Salomon_G by any chace.... are you an eskimo, and more importantly, could you explain in your own words -not someone else's- why the word is a racial slur and why its appearance as the name of a band would be cause of offense to the peoples it refers to... in particular when some are actually proud of being recognized as eskimo? I spent 2 years in Alaska, and the Yupik I got to meet are very much ok with the term. The reason I ask is it seems to me you yourself are spitting rhetoric that you did not come up with on your own.

Because context matters. You are mistaken in that Inuit is the *actual* name of all arctic peoples. It is the name of a tribe, but the Yupik are NOT Inuit. How do you think the Yupik or the Aleut feel about being called Inuit because some other dudes felt unhappy by the former context (see how context matters?) of an umbrella term that is not really offensive in nature - there's no consensus amongst expert linguists on the origin of the word. I can almost taste the irony AND the double standard. Also, I'm still waiting for the explanation in your own words on why the word is offensive (rather than sending me to do research when you are saying yourself I probably know it already). That other dude may be all about anti cancel culture, but you appear to be on the complete opposite side of the spectrum by defending being offended on behalf of others. Now, to answer your question: do I care about the feelings of those folks who claim to be offended by the particular use of a word? The answer is no. They are probably unaware of what words being used incorrectly tick me off, so, in reciprocity, I would not dare entertain the idea of keeping them under any obligation to care. And, no, I am not deciding that they shouldn't feel offended. If they feel offended and rage, that's their prerogative. But in my very personal opinion, it does not help anyone's mental health to become angered absent ill-intent. I would argue, though, that the fact that the word exists and is used in contexts that do not seek to offend is reason enough to not be deemed insensitive if one actively chooses to use it. The way I see it, the same applies to the shock value of any "charged" language. Perhaps a better direction, culturally, would be to develop acuity and emotional management instead of overprotecting susceptibilities. We'd get along much better in general.

@@TremereTT Naja, die hatten halt Probleme in Kanada, wo Eskimo auch anders konnotiert ist. Davor hatte das auch keinen in Europa wirklich gebockt. Man kann seine Meinung zu dem Thema haben wie man will, aber die Art, wie das bei EC ablief, war genauso, wie es ablaufen sollte. Schöne sachliche Auseinandersetzung und Abwägung von Pros und Cons. Und dann eine Entscheidung, mit der alle leben können. Und das Kürzel ist sogar noch dasselbe.

@@smooki86 Informier dich mal über die nordamerikanische Geschichte (speziell Kanada). Da sieht das z.T. anders aus, weil der Begriff im Englischen auch anders verwendet wurde. Hat ausnahmsweise nicht nur mit "woken Spinnern" zu tun. Im europäischen Gebrauch ist der Begriff generell unproblematisch (wenn auch unpräzise) Die Probleme hatte EC ja auch erst mit nordamerikanischen Veranstaltern. Und ja, finde auch, dass der neue Name besser passt. Mit Eskimos hatte die Musik thematisch eh nicht viel zu tun.

Well, as half Native American, and of tribes people would’ve have traditionally called Eskimos, I personally don’t care, didn’t and never had offended me, or my mom, or aunts/uncles, they are full blooded. If we said the tribes, almost no one knows, of we said Eskimo, everyone got the gist of it. But hey, do what you feel you should. I liked your old name, was funny, just like the older song, “I’m the only gay Eskimo in my tribe” not gay, but hilarious as a premise, and pretty true overall. People are too sensitive about silly things these days, that don’t matter. But it is what it is. @@mOOny187 Wegen der Bezeichnung "Eskimo", was meines Wissens nach soviel bedeutet wie "Fischfresser"... Das war einigen (mir auch) ziemlich lang nicht klar und man hatte es ja auch so beigebracht bekommen. Da die indigene Kultur und alles drumherum aber jetzt an Aufmerksamkeit gewonnen hat, wird es jetzt zum Glück allgemein bekannt. Ist also nur richtig, dass sie den Namen ändern (:
