Coral Reefs are of great significance (1)these protect coastal settlements from tropical storms by dissipating the wave energy of the sea and minimizing the damage in the coastal areas. (2)The chemicals obtained from coral reefs are also used to make various forms of drugs for curing life-threatening diseases like cancer. (3)Coral reefs are important spawning grounds of a number of marine fish species. (4)Coral reefs also promote tourism and are essential for the sustainability of the fishing industry as that offers employment to billions of people all over the world.

Mangroves are important for natural recycle of nitrients . Protects coastal inland from adverse climtic actions . It provide livelihood to local communities by means tourisam nd fishiries nd aquaculure like alied activity. It provide woods and edible plants. It provides protection from monsoonal tides . It provide dwelling place for so many aqautic speicis. It act as very importat part of biodiversity helps to maintain homeostasis of bioecology.

#Mangrove plants form a unique ecosystem. • An ecosystem consists of living organisms and non-living factors such as soil and water. • Mangroves are essential to the first link in the food chain. When their leaves fall into the water and are decomposed by bacteria many valuable nutrients are released that are essential to the growth of plankton. Plankton are the producers in this and oceanic ecosystems #mangroves can filter out pollutants like nitrates, phosphates and petroleum based products that are present in run-off. The microbes in the sediment break the pollutants down. *The mangroves trap sediments and prevent them from building up further out to sea, which is damaging to other ecosystems like coral reefs and sea grasses!!

There are many different types of rich mangrove forests in Kelshi, Padle-Anjarle, Guhagar, Bhatye and Dabhol creek in Ratnagiri district.

Importance of coral reef:- Protect coastline from damaging effects of wave action. Protect tropical storms. Provide habitate to many marine organism and support that species. Food security. Importance of mangroves Buffer Zone between the land and sea. Stabilize the coastline, reducing erosion from storm surges, currents, waves, and tides. Play and invaluable role as nature’s shield against cyclones, ecological disasters and as protector of shorelines. Breeding and nursery grounds for a variety of marine animals. Harbour a variety of life forms like invertebrates. Fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and even mammals like tigers. Good source of income generation for shoreline communities like fisherfolk. Save the marine diversity, which is fast diminishing. Purify the water by absorbing impurities and harmful heavy metals and help us to breathe a clean air by absorbing pollutants in the air. Potential source for recreation and tourism. The intricate root system of mangroves also makes these forests attractive to fish and other organisms seeking food and shelter from predators.
