Does the hob really need 6 mm^2? All considerations that I have seen, read and heard concerning this matter of cooker (not just hob) cable size, referencing diversity and the on site guide suggest that 6mm is not necessary and 4 mm^2 would be perfectly adequate. Or did I misunderstand what was being said?

I am sure you are meant to use H07 flex. Most manufacturers instructions state H07.

@@Cjrelectrical Interesting - which one wins? The MI of the duel-plate or of the hob and cooker? The felxibal (Yeah, it's a word! lol) H07 is to reduce stress due to heat and movement so essential on a freestanding oven which is "regularly" pulled out to clean... but on a fitted oven and hob like in your video? Probably fine.

Yeah on appliances with a crap cable gripper and a limp wrist then H07 is probably best. Twin with an operating temp of 70c no worries 🔥

Been a spark for nearly 30 years never installed HO7 cable on a cooker/Hob only if it’s provided on the appliance. Love the dual plates - they are the best solution to the hob and oven combo.

Bad workmanship T&E not designed as a flex cable and is not heat, grease or oil proof no matter what it says on the plate and if it does probably refers to incoming very disappointing the amount of times i have seen heat damage to T&E cables

Only ever heat damage at terminals when limp wrist sparks have been in. If your ovens venting over 70c then you have issues. A built in hob and oven only Come out every 5 years. They are not a portable appliance.

It's pretty obvious the outgoing cable grips are for flat cable, not flex. If the MI only meant incoming on T&E they would say so, and provide round grips. Also, how much grease and oil get into cupboards beneath hobs and behind built-in ovens? And if heat is an issue, melamine facing on the carcasses would be banned and you wouldn't be able to keep plastic bottles in the cupboard. Just because H07 is commonly used doesn't make it a requirement.
