All things considered, it made sense. Sthrad was cruel, but generally not sadistic. Excluding the church massacre, he normally did not go out of his way to increase the kill count. He was evil, but very honorable, not once breaking his word. He was confident, but very strategic, being both very subtle and imposing as the situation required. He was elegant, but not above getting his hands dirty. He was a bad ruler, but a good leader that inspired true devotion from his followers. He was every bit the legendary noble warlord, but also a deeply hurt man that could not accept the love of his life was repulsed by him. Such a well roleplayed character, the DM did an amazing job.

I definitely think the final point about Boshack is a great one - evil characters can totally work in a party, even a party of good characters, you just have to make sure you understand why your character would work with them. I played a lawful evil warlock in a 3.5 game once, in a setting where warlocks were executed on discovery, and his whole point was “I need people on my side.”

On the "Chaotic or Evil" thing. I've been playing and running RPGs since 1981 and I've played quite a few evil characters, and seen lots of chaotic and or evil characters played, well. However, it has been my experience that most players who want to be evil or chaortic neutral are just jerks who want mechanical permission to be jerks in game. They do not understand how evil works or that actions have consequences in game. I played in an all evil campaign back in 1 (lawful E and Neutral E) teamed up against the 4 chaotic stupid players and used them to further a joint goal. The real fun was how the two not stupid evil players schemed to come out on top after the 4 flunkies were eventually dealt with. I'm pretty sure I hurt the feelings of the CE priestess after seducing her (in character) and then betraying her when she was no longer useful and could now only provide a good fall guy. In the Palladium RPG books they actually have an evil alignment for the 'evil with honor' type who lives by a personal code. If you aren't familiar with Palladium Fantasy, RIFTs, RoboTech, ad nausium, you should give thet alignment system a look.

would your group ever consider a "return to borovia" campaign where boshak returns to rescue other characters? like what if boshak learned that staying in barovia was making garo more evil then he was and he just couldn't have that so he goes to get them out of there? maybe he finds out from a crazy old wizard that if they destroy the amber temple shrines hey can get out and decides to go for it; and then boshak could lord it over them forever...

"that's what she said" I thought my party was the only ones who were addicted to this line :P

I'm addicted to saying it during game sessions but only at all the wrong times.

@@IAmAlgolei hah I do feel you with that ^^; for me it be came too many wrong times so I stopped myself and took a cold turkey so I am almost cured from saying it anymore.

That was AMAZING. The whole series and post game wrap up conversations were phenomenal. I really really wish there would be more series like this in the future.

I am currently playing a Lawful Evil Kobold Artificer. Which I was inspired to make him evil.. Because of Boshack. His mindset is "I'm not respected, But I will Prove to them all I am the greatest." He's just trying to study the warforged while taking every chance he can to get money, or new blueprints to study. it's an Eborron setting Current Goal: Learn to build Warforged and make small kobold like ones. (the first being out of my own Steel defender), without making foes I don't need Later goals: Well haven't decided.. One step at a time to proving Nik Nak is the greatest builder

God, I hope they make follow up campaign. Just imagine Garo as a new broken Abbot; Gouda, broken from dying and resurrecting hundreds of times; Krusk, broken after understanding that he'll never be able to destroy all that is evil; and happy Boshak, who got everything he wanted. It would be even cooler if all of them were new NPCs and Destined Allies.
