While editing I realized that Laios saying the nightmares had been in Marcille’s pillow for a while probably meant they caused her nightmares all the way back in Episode 2! THE STORYTELLING!

If the nightmares were there since EP 2, then they could've killed her in EP 8/9 when she was injured by the undine and was bedridden. I think they got into Marcille's pillow in EP 16/17 from one of the other parties. My guess is from one of Kabru's party members since they were water logged for a while or from Shuro himself since he's sleep deprived and would be a perfect target for the nightmares (especially since he's shown to have been targeted before). Not to mention the other name for the nightmares is shin which is probably what the easterners call them.

Laios commented there was an unusual number of nightmares, so maybe Marcille has been slowly accumulating them from a while. We know from the cockatrice episode that Marcille has unusually high magic resistance, due to being an elf, so she can probably survive one or two nightmares.

Laios’ called falin’s monster form too greedy since it has scales and feathers and wings but his “strongest servant” in the dream has fur, scales feathers bird leg, 2 heads upfront and a snake head in the tail aside from another tail And even wings from different animals and the goat head has a unicorn horn too

The reason she left is because they put a literal bomb collar on her. Not exactly the best household for her. All of Shuro's retainers go by flower aliases to hide their true identity, as they do very dirty work. You're underestimating Laios' inteligence here. Laios is the second smartest person in the series by the Bible's "stats". His nightmare implications are as bad as you can imagine them being, he's just gotten good at repressing his past. Marcille's dream sequence was amazing, the one time the anime left the manga in the dust. All those paitings minus the first are entirely anime-original and they are SUPER important insight into her character going foward. Highly suggest a rewatch.

To be fair it is revealed in an extra chapter that the hag curse isn't suppose to kill but bring back those who have it. Shuro's main retainer used it as a sort of protection charm on shuro when he was young. But it is horrifying so it traumatized him.

The reason izutsumi has one is she kept running away. It isn't there to kill izutsumi, but to being her back to the main retainer so it can be reapplied.

Don't know about the beast man curse on Izutsumi, but the colar curse had to be touched regularly so she wouldn't run away. Probably the master is Shuro, I guess. And that Hannya was like a paper shikigami, my suspicions would fall upon the crane lady who was Shuro's nanny.

I guess the Doppelgangers were mixed with japanese kitsune fox-like yokais, nightmares there are shape shifting dragons in Chinese miths who produce illusions, I've read that the ideogram is the same for clams, that's why there clams which are also dragons, I guess.

The 2 spell on Izutsumi are> (1) the dark magic that made her a cat girl. (2) the magical slave collar on her neck by Maizuru. She's a run away slave. That collar is to 'deal with the ran away slave'.

i love the nightmare chapter and this adaptation did not disappoint - this is definitely my favorite episode yet when it comes to how it conveys & improves upon the manga. the paintings in marcille's dream were a great anime-only addition, adding to the already big pile of stuff that this chapter/episode foreshadows lol izutsumi joins the party! absolute shitkid, i adore her. also love to see laios continually showing how much of a sweetheart he is this whole episode, maybe the cutest he's been so far? whos to say

It's never made clear in the main storyline, but in the extra, Itsuzumi wasn't cursed to BE a cat, when she was a kid, sold in the market, her soul was torn out from her corpse and put inside a cat, fused both souls. Therefore she is closer to a cat with a certain level of somewhat human-sentient, not a human with cat traits.

There's this one page in Dungeon Meshi fan-translated manga, that explain why nightmares depicted as clams, they are a kind of shapeshifting dragon, where it can change to a clam when entering the water from Japanese/Chinese myths called Shin/Shen, they also can create a mirage.

Don't dorget she specifically mentions that that her neck was cursed, the caster had to touch it in regular intervals and we have already seen a caster that uses paper demons... She was cursed by her own team mates, in order for her to not run off.

If Marcille gets her hands on the mad mage's grimoire, she may be able to learn more advanced ancient magic. His grimoire probably contains the spell that he used to turn Falin into a chimera. She could probably decipher the spell and find a way to reverse it. I think that this is how we'll get Falin back for good! Steal that spooky magic-8 eyeball book!

The neck collar big knife holding demon thing was really harsh disciplinary method, but I guess its on character for Maizuru. However, considering their reactions to Marcille's magic it isn't considered black magic. Not necromancy for sure.

izutsumi... doesn't mean much! it's written in katakana (basically the japanese alphabet for foreign words) which implies that it doesn't have a meaning, but as a name, it would most likely be a surname, and a combination of the word Well (井, i) and Embankment (堤, tsutsumi).

I normally enjoy reaction videos since it reminds me back in the days of highschool and college when I watch shows with roomates. But I would smack someone if he constantly pause the videos. How about count how many times you pause the 25min episode and maybe think about tone it down bit? I don't mind reaction and talk over but constant pause give me vibe that you aren't even enjoying the show.
