THANKS FOR THE MENTION! I'll add yours to my video card and description, and thanks, as I was thinking, "Crap. How am I going to explain the ERA-D plugin?" Ta--dah! Curtis to the rescue! AND 91K Subs? What the heck are you doing??? Do share that with me...oh, wait...by making awesome videos. 👍

Nicely demonstrated Curtis. I picked up the ERA-R and ERA-D plugins a short while back for a client's project and they did a bang-up job. I find myself using the De-Reverbation on previous projects with an acceptable level of reverb just to give more presence to the audio.

I'm glad that Your gear is working again. I know it will sound like amateur thing, but Audacity has *excellent* noice reduction, based on the noise sample from the recording. It can not automatically detect noises that appear sporadically, but static noise such as fan is just destroyed.

I agree, it does pretty well. We demo'd that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ2thIeXq66Mac0 I have found that it is pretty easy to push it too much to the point where it degrades the audio quality of the voice, but if you're careful, its pretty good.

Thanks for reviewing this Curtis. I'm a little late to the party but wanted to add something that may be interesting for others: I don't particularly like the de-reverb plugin of this bundle (I prefer Acon Digital's Deverberate. Holds up nicely even against the RX equivalent). But to my knowledge it is the only bundle other than RX Advanced that comes with a dedicated plosive remover. And this one works pretty well. Tried to accomplish the same by hand using various ways, including dynamic EQ, multi-band compressor and even Soothe2. But nothing sounded as good and was so quick to set up.

I film inside of oil refineries where obviously, noise is a big problem. Trying to film in environments where >85 - 95dB is extremely difficult. I am getting the microphones as close to the talents mouths as possible. I cannot use boom mike's for directional sound control due to the composition most of the time, so Lavaliers are the only option for me. Then I am trying to edit the noise background out of the final production using Adobe Audition's built in tools for noise reduction (taking a noise print and then using that to kill the background noise) but of course the effect is noticeable with the final dialog sounding hollow or tinney if too much noise is eliminated. I have tried EQ mods as well, but the background noise is comprised of many different sounds at many different frequencies (pumps, fluid moving through pipes, etc). Do you think that plug-ins would be effective for this type of problem or are there other suggestions you would have? There are a lot of segments that I will end up having to do voice over back in the office but my talent is in view in a lot of the shots, so little to no chance of getting a lip sync.
@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Trevor, These plugins were a little more effective than the Audition included effects. But for situations like you describe, I'd consider using cardioid headset mics which get the mic even closer to the voice and provide just a little more signal to noise, though they do generally sound a bit more mid-range focused. Best wishes!

Very interesting. One wonders if this wouldn’t work even better with two shotgun mics, with one pointing away from the subject into the room to record more of the isolated noise and reverberation and less of the signal (voice). Maybe that would reduce the risk of introducing the unnatural phasing/pumping effect. Wish I could afford the advanced $299 plugin to play around with this. I’ve often wondered why sound pros don’t generally use this kind of active noise cancellation technique.

Hi RedBearAK, good question. There is a 14 day trial if you'd like to test it out. That'd be an interesting experiment.

Hi, is there any way we can use this in real time? So I can feed a noiseless audio to Skype/Zoom Webinar/KZbin Live streaming? Also is this so much better than the internal Noise cancellation feature in Final Cut Pro or other video editing software? Thanks!
@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Isaac, I haven't tried to use it in real-time, but I'd test test test before committing to it. You'll need some software to route the audio first to your DAW where you'll run the plugin, then route that to Skype or Zoom. Best wishes!

When I shoot with two cameras plus boom, I have two stereo scratch tracks from the cameras and one mono track from the boom. How would you uses these assets to make the best dialog track? That is, do more tracks help or do you just pick the best two and use those? (I'm guessing the latter is true, but I had to ask.) Thanks for a great channel and another great video. *EDIT:* The web site says dual channels, so I guess the best two channels is the answer to my question.

You may or may not want to do this, but if you were to put your 2 reference recording as well as the processed files, on DropBox or Google Drive, I would be very interested to compare the results with what I could achieve with my Waves.com De-Esser plus Crumplepop's De-Reverb. My friend has Izotope RX6 Advanced ($1,200), which is way out of my price range. RX6 dialog isolation seems unbelievably good. How would you compare Accusonus ERA-D with that?
@curtisjudd

I prefer the reverb remover in ERA-D. When it comes to broadband noise reduction, I might prefer RX but ERA-D is quite good as well.

@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd 6 жыл бұрын
Completely agree! I only recorded in that nasty location to make a worst case recording and push the plugin to its limits. When shooting on location, I often find that at least a little bit of de-noising is required, even with a very good production recording. I generally try to use sound blankets to avoid reverb issues, but sometimes they slip through.

Any type of event videography, especially big echoey churches when filming weddings. Documentary filmmaking as well. Basically anytime you are filming as a "fly on the wall" and don't really have full control of the environment. Plugins like these can be life savers.

why is your session at 32bit? (perhaps you recorded 32b?) personally i wasn't too impressed. dialogue did not sound natural and your levels dropped a decent amount. if you increase your levels to match the original you will start hearing artifacts. BTW RX dereverb has never really been great. it is passable if you know what you are doing tho.
@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Finder 22. The default for new sessions is 32 bit and the hardware isn't holding us back. Fair enough, that's why we provided a demo. If it isn't good enough for your production values, now you know. :)
@finder2267
@finder2267 6 жыл бұрын
certainly a interesting demo. that being said people will try to replicate your demo. it always helps to present a demo in a way that it will be delivered in the real world. i am sure you have never had to deliver 32bit audio even if your hardware supports it. im not picking on you.
@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd 6 жыл бұрын
32 bit's value is for processing. When the processing is done, I of course export to a delivery format that is not 32 bit.
@finder2267
@finder2267 6 жыл бұрын
Actually it is not for processing (well not entirely). i dont want to spend too much time on this. To understand what is happening you have a understanding of the sampling process. during sampling we capture voltage values of frequency and amplitude. frequency = sample rate (number of samples you take per second) and amplitude = bit depth (the resolution of the sample). These are fixed values that don't change after recording. when we bring in for example a 16bit word in to 24bit session (very common these days) you just added 8 bits of blank bits (same thing with a 24 bit word in a 32 bit session). the resolution is not increased but the file size is. increasing the gain of a 16 bit recording in a 24 bit session will increase the noise floor faster then if the same recording was 24 bit. Each project dictates the delivery specs and there are some situations where we would want to record at 32 bit but those are not common and normally for advanced sound design and archival purposes. As for 32 bit sessions. if my sound super found out i worked in a 32 bit editorial session (reel or long run formats) i would be seriously questioned and possibly never work for that super or company again. not only are you increasing the size of the session but also, processing load (less resources) and worst of all the amount of time take to convert a 32 bit session to 24 bit!
