Hey Curtis! Thank you for what you do, this is an awesome resource. I currently have the Rodecaster Duo, but I do not like the DSP solution, I feel like the compression and the make-up gain does not actually do the job that well at all and I struggle to achieve the sound I really want out of the DSP, I see that the DLZ units offer much more expansion on the actual processing side which is awesome; however, is it a good implementation in comparison to what Rode offers on their side? I would love to know your thoughts on this, thank you for reading and keep doing what you do it has helped me and so many others out there!

Why does the content loudness in the nerds' statistics change from '100%/58% (content loudness 4.7dB)' in a full 2:37 video to '100%/48% (content loudness 6.4dB)' when I upload a 7-second segment (from 1:11 to 1:18) to KZbin? I would not have bought my Sound Devices PreMix6-11 without your channel. The ads on KZbin are worse than ever, like late night TV! I used to subscribe but it’s now too expensive. I think you were wise to put your stuff up as courses, but does it work? I pay for Masterclass and wish they would put up you and others, who moved beyond reviews to education. Time for a curated education channel rather than alternative TV where the programming is really the ads.

One late comment to thank once again @curtisjudd for another good video, especially for trying to clarify the 32-bit float topic, which is very interesting and not fully explored/resolved. It seems to me that there is not a clear answer to what is (for me) the most fundamental question. Is there any disadvantage in using 32-bit float format? Or better, can the use of multiple preamps and converters + following processing cause any problems to the resulting 32-bit sound compared to the same recording performed with same setup (in terms of microphone/position) at 24-bit? We would need some more precise answers on this before deciding if we want to invest in the "insurance" of 32-bit float and pay the price of the extra storage space + longer workflow. I have no doubt that I would use 32-bit float anytime I make a recording that is important to me, but would like to be reassured that I am not compromising the quality of my audio recording! You (Curtis) considered this when saying (e.g.) "I was hinting more at the possibility of creating a crossover network to recombine the audio from multiple converters as being a potential degrader of audio quality." But then your conclusion was simply that you did not seem to hear anything wrong in your 32-bit float tests. I found it interesting to read @chakerian "There might be another test you could do. Poorly combining the outputs could result in gains/losses at the crossover point, too. Maybe test it with a known flat mic, and see what the white noise looks like across the spectrum to look for unexpected peaks or dips? And at different volumes it should move the peaks/dips (since it'll move which A/D converter it's using)." I would love if someone could try this and other methods to really stress test the 32-bit float recording system and find out if there is any potential problem and sound degradation. It does not help that there is not full clarity in the specs provided by Sound Devices, Zoom, Tascam, Rode, etc. They do not reveal the full details of the new 32-bit float recording technology and this is a real shame and makes me worry about this topic and hope for some more tests and discussions! Many thanks to all for the efforts!

I did now some reasonable sound treatment - e.g. DIY diffusors combined with my bookshelf - limited by the fact that I do not want to disturbe the flair of this my real living room. It helped a lot. But now the noise from the street at the left window is a problem if I want some distance - may be 25-30 cm (10-12 inch) - from my microphone. If I have understood this (and some other) videos correctly a shotgun like the Sennheiser MKE600 might be okay, because the moderate sound treatment should reduce phasing, too. At the moment I am using a Rode NT-USB (old version), would like to upgrade to the Rode NT1 (4.Gen.), but under the given circumstances a shootgun like the MKE600 might be the better option. But til not shure, wether to priorise the freedom of movement at least with arms and hands or the better sound. I want to make videos for people in Turkey learning German as a foreign language. Sound is important, but seeing me and my mouth, my gestures, too. The alternative may be a supercardoid SDC, because the noise from the street at the left is the main problem. Or I gave a damn to all these considerations and get a microphone with a sound l Iike (Rode NT-1) even if I have to put it for a clean sound closer to my mouth than I would prefer. I do it for fun not for money, at least I have to like, what I do.

According to the guy who runs the KZbin algorithm what they're looking for is fewer satisfaction and he claims that how long somebody watches your video makes no difference as long as that viewer left satisfied it doesn't matter if they only watch 3 seconds of your video. My question is how do they know when a viewer satisfied does that mean they have to hit the like button before they leave if you just making up a bunch of BS to make it sound like the viewer attention doesn't matter I mean that Todd guy in some recent interviews explains the way the algorithm currently works and he makes it sound like it's way better for everybody and few time and retention and all that stuff supposedly don't matter anymore but I'm not so sure I believe all of that

As a video editor, a lot of my streamer clients have dynamic/condenser microphones and the biggest con for me is audio peaking when they get loud/scream. It's really annoying how if you raise your voice, in some cases not even to a screaming level, the audio starts peaking instantly and it's really unpleasant on the ears.. In most my projects I end up having to manually boost the lows and manually lower the peaks dramatically, it's a big waste of time..

Might find a compressor and or limiter helpful.
@spiritwatcher8880
@spiritwatcher8880 5 күн бұрын
@@curtisjudd What I found is that a limiter doesn't always help with peaking audio, for peaking audio to sound normal you have to limit it a lot more than normal loud audio. So if I have an audio track with gameplay audio as well as streamer's mic audio, a limiter doesn't work for both at the same time because it will also make the gameplay footage too quiet. A compressor will also sometimes make the game audio sound muffled

Hey Curtis, have you used the tascam x8 as a windows 10 deskop audio interface? So far I am liking all the options and use cases the tascam x8 can do and compared to other recorders it seems to win out. But I need to be able to record 32bit float on my pc and monitor myself live via the tascam x8. I'd also like to be able to turn down the mic monitoring and desktop audio coming through the tascam x8 independently but I don't think that's a feature unfortunately. I will be using a rode nt1 as my microphone so hopefully the pre amps on the tascam x8 are good enough for that mic.
