Great video as always Curtis. Thank you! One product you might find interesting is the new Comica 32bit wireless shotgun VM40. They are the only company that I know of, that make shotguns with built in wireless transmitters and at the same time 32bit internal backup audio.

So, Curtis, is the F3 not a good option for recording loud live music? I was looking at the F3 to record my band's sets at our gigs. My plan is to use my Lewitt LCT140 condenser microphones up on the stage to capture the full band. We're not a heavy metal or super loud band, but it is amplified live music. Thanks for the video.

Whether my hearing is better than most, more sensitive than most, I give more attention to what I'm hearing and/or I care more about what/how I'm listening to - my comment/viewpoint is that: - People will always act like they're better and/or separated from their environment, thereby not understanding/caring about/being connected to/in touch with/one with their environment. - People are stupid in almost every aspect and are unwilling to learn from their mistakes. This is a fact. - People shouldn't try to make any frequency range/delta too low/high from others. This causes dissonance/disharmony/UNequality (UNequalization) - a complete opposite to 'making everything equal' (its definition). Although a flat sound could logically be argued/defined as being the most equal (assuming what is being played and heard are flat sounds, but isn't how it is with music). - You could try seeking out/selecting one frequency range/delta at a time, adjust which range it selects/controls, and select a more subtle/equal volume/sensitivity. Repeat for all other frequency ranges/deltas. Save this preset (like Custom Mic 1)! Then try averaging/meaning it out: open a text editor, write all valued and their properties, create a second column where the most common gain/volume becomes '0db' (flatline default), write the adjusted remaining gains/volumes. Then use the equalizer with the new averaged/meaned values and save as another preset (like Custom Mic 2). Finally compare and contrast (second one should sound more natural)! * Perhaps my advice is more suited for audio output, but logically it can be applied to audio input as well. Logically all I stated makes sense.

I had bought this some 10 years ago. The heat it generated created lot of problems. Slowly I stopped using it. Now I find that lot of led options have come up to replace the bulb easily. Proper led with a suitable pin base will help switch the bulb. Can you suggest any led alternative to the halogen one ? I think the base is g8 or g9 as per some you tubers. Can you give the correct base number and suggest an led alternative so that I can start reusing ? Thanks.

Great Video, thanks! I am an enthusiast KZbinr (i.e non-professional, 67 posts, my channel is not Monetized). Lite experience w/audio, but lots of gadgets, i've gone thru a dozen mics in the last 10 yrs.... blah blah blah QUESTION: what about single vs. dual mono (1mic vs. 2 mics) for Voice-Overs. ...just upgraded to the new Comica VM40 with 2 mics. For indoor/studio type recording, using both mics (vs. a single mic) just sounds better, even though the two mics are only 6 inches apart. Any comments on dual mono vs. a single mics? I also have an OLD pair of Deity d4-duo's that also sound way better with 2 vs. 1. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't heard you talk about this,so maybe it's not "a thing", ha! ALSO, I've tried both the D4-duo mics and the VM40 mics using the DJI Mic2 "audio transmitters" back to the DJI Mic2 receiver. [Hopefully that makes sense.] What's the difference in quality on the Mic2 receiver and/or the VM40 receiver (both are basically tiny USB audio adapters) vs. a traditional USB audio adapter such as a Steinberg UR22MKII?? [I still have the Steinberg from 10+ yrs ago ...USB 2.0 *lol* it works!] I feel like the DJI receiver is at least equal to the Steinberg, not sure about the Comica. This would be a great topic for your next video. Any comments are much appreciated as I'm still learning. The VM40 is barely out of the box, the mics have not made it out of the house yet for more challenging "field" testing. When I do, I'm not sure whether I should use the Comica BT receiver as intended or the DJI transmitter/receiver option, DJI just "feels" like it might be more reliable.

Great review, and always like the sound of your voice and space. Just a couple of questions- on the Rode comments pages I see a lot of people complaining about the monitoring latency when recording via USB. In your opinion, how bad is this really? I’m tossing up between this and the signature version plus a rode interface (I can’t see a use case for 32bit in my situation) . If I go with the signature and a 24-bit interface, cane I still use all the DSP goodies on the Rode Connect app - if I get the free download?

Hello Curtis, thank you very much for your video. I am making a short film. I have a Zoom F3 device and I need to record the dialogue of 4 people. One of the XLR inputs is connected to my shotgun microphone. I have 4 Sennheiser G4 wireless microphones. I am thinking of connecting these microphones to a line mixer like a Behringer MX400 and then connecting them to the second input of the F3 with a VXLR+. I will record the 4 microphones as a single file. In this case, will I experience a serious decrease in sound quality? Is there a different method or mixer you can recommend?

Wow this unit sounds noisy upon listening to this audio. I actually have one and it gave me lots of issues at recent live event. I had big problems with the autoscan channel saying "blocked frequency" although I used Sennheisers online tool to specifically buy the one rated best for my location. You can hear the noise since you bumped up the audio to -23LUFS. Any suggestions for a 2-man crew that needs audio to work quick and easy for live events? 1. Get another grip right? 2. use a wired recorder like F3 right? 3. What else?

@@curtisjudd Thx, but I just got really worried about it 😞Right after it shipped, I found out, that a ton of fake chinese MV7's are getting injected into the market 😞 The fakes are apparently very well done at this point, but there must still be ways to tell them apart, if not physically, then maybe by sound signature? Perhaps a good, interesting topic for a future video?
