Curtly Ambrose, one of cricket's legends, bowled the longest over in cricket history. The Frank Worrell Cup, a prestigious bilateral competition between West indies and Australia, held immense significance as the stage for cricket's crown especially test cricket. And Curtly Ambrose became a crucial figure in it starting from 1988, making his mark with remarkable performances, especially against Australia.
Especially of note was his heroics in Perth in the 1992 edition where he had taken 7 wickets in 38 balls for only one run, completing a comeback for his country
However, things took a turn in 1995 when Australia defeated West Indies, marking the end of their era. Ambrose facing immense criticism for not performing up to expectations, bearing the full burden of the blame
This was further complicated when next they again lost to Australia in the 1996 world cup semifinal from a really comfortable position
So come 1996, West Indian team was extremely motivated to get there revenge but quickly faced setbacks, losing the first two tests.
Thankfully the ODIs that followed, allowed Ambrose to work hard to regain his form and make a powerful comeback in the third test, taking nine wickets.
However then tragedy stuck as Ambrose was injured during tri series ODI finals putting him out of the fourth test. His absence severely impacted West Indies, leading to a humiliating defeat.
With one test left and Ambrose recovering bit, he was now determined to win. If not for glory then for pride.
And followed it up by taking five wickets in the first innings, bringing West Indies to the brink of victory. The match became heated, with tensions rising between the teams.
And as intense final test started, watched his friend and the captain of the team Courtney Walsh risking his health by bowling even while being sick.
