absolutely true, especially when you take into account the shite that passes for music nowadays. The layered guitars were the best and Toni was the perfect frontwoman .

@@frandwyer1276 Agreed. I'd kill for them to reunite for an EP release and a few shows. Would be interesting to see what kind of stuff they'd come up with today. They were sickeningly brilliant for the 11-12 years they were together. Unfortunately, I discovered them way late in the game. In 1997 I discovered their song 'coming up roses' on one of those free magazine cd compilations and I really dug it, but I was so into the group GARBAGE (who turned out to be a more commercially digestible version of Curve) at that time, I didn't bother looking more into their discography. It wasn't until discover 2007 (with the help of KZbin and the interwebs) that I finally dug into their entire catalog and I've been mesmerized and transfixed ever since. Better late than never I suppose!

@@christopherdeftones2878 saw them at Irving Plaza in NYC circa 1994? 95? And at the Paradise in Boston some time later. Both shows had glitches, but they delivered an absolute force field of sound, carried by Toni's charisma as well as the strength of the musical concept of the band. I'm not sure how well those live shows worked for anyone who wasn't already familiar, but for those who were ... an evening well spent.

The quality of the audio is too good be true. As a part-time producer, engineer and some one who played live for over a decade, that is a desk mix that has been pulled apart, overdubbed, every track cleaned up, autotuned, de-essed, compressed, remixed and EQ'ed. May have even grabbed some early studio demo 'stems' and used bits from them too. Beautifully done I must say! I know the song very well and they aren't the studio 'stems', so it certainly is a live recording, but not as the 'punters' would ever have heard. One of my all time fave bands by the way.

I was basically thinking the same thing before I read your comments so thanks for confirming. The music we're hearing is totally layered by synthesizers and not by the guitars those guys are thrashing away on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the band at all, I love 'em and think they're cool as hell, but the audio we're hearing here is not an accurate representation of that live video.
@eboethrasher Жыл бұрын
@@liantrosretrospectiva4134 nah those vocals are live, listen to how much she drags out certain notes, those are not the studio vocals, they were recorded to multitrack, and then cleaned up, and you can tell when it drops out that they are live for sure. They played with tracks that had the backing vocals on them, along with the programming, so that stuff was there. Although people did sing the "Alright" bit and that might have had something done to it, but the rest were all live vocals for sure, besides what was on the tracks.

Wonder who was doing all the sound processing and effects overload ? Their music seems almost impossible to duplicate in a live sutation.... Listening to the background vocals , they might have played along to a taperecorder , which is no shame, lots of bands with such a saturated sound will have to fall back on that now and then....

Obvious .....certainly the background vocals and lots of the effects.......which is no shame many bands with such a saturated sound as them have to fall back on that now and then.....In those days they still used tape recorders to play along with, like The Human League , Orchestral Manoeuvres or New Order did....there was no shame in that , as long as it was not totally synced......

Sad how TV shows forced Curve to simply lip sync or pretend to play their instruments or something when they were this good live all by themselves as evidenced by this. Would be nice to have good video and audio quality footage from TV. Seems like not many of their concerts had quality camera crews with them.
@XMIR10C2 жыл бұрын
pardon me? They have at least a dozen on KZbin live no lip sync - how can you get good footage in the 90s?
@Reticuli2 жыл бұрын
@@XMIR10C Some of the TV shows were not live mic and real, but was just lip sync stuff and required by the show. Really weird. My point is the best quality footage is going to be from the TV performances they did, but particularly in UK these shows seemed to force faking it at least in part, as if they were shooting a music video. The stuff where it's completely live and real is the poor quality concert footage you're talking about. I mean, if Dean's got the board audio he could sync up to some of this sort of footage, that might be really amazing even if the picture is obviously lacking compared to TV. Curve needed a full time video/film crew and people in charge of recording the sets, but hindsight is 20/20.

I'm a Curve fan, and I love this song... but I'm really disappointed in this performance... I live in Seattle and saw them once live here and loved the show, but after watching this I'm very disappointed, as it's very apparent they are playing to a pre-recorded backing track. They probably are playing some of the parts live, but a recording is definitely being mixed in. 0:15 - the intro (the industrial percussion sounds) starts, but the drummer isn't playing it (and there's no keyboard player, so who's playing it?), 3:01 we see the drummer is playing his ride, but hear his hi-hat (like the studio recording), 3:18 the guitarist and bassist sing the back up vocals, "all right" but clearly that's Toni's voice singing the backup vocals (just like the studio recording), and at 3:25 they are both too far away from the mic for their (backup) vocals to be clear... not saying they are lip syncing, but what we're hearing ain't coming from them.

Well, you're wrong. This is video shot from the crowd with an NME recording of the show (soundboard I assume) played over it. So while it's not the sound you'd have heard standing in the audience, it is the music being played during that performance.
