Quite nice. I used to build curved fronted cabinets and chests in the old days back in the UK out of solid Oak, but the procedures we used back then were a bit different, with everything completed by hand; no modern machinery like today. The finish we used was highly polished, French polish, so the timber had to be perfectly matched. Every piece was built by one craftsman who was assigned to that piece and didn't work on anyone elses project. I never worked on a mass production line. It took many hours to build just one piece of cabinetry and we took pride in our work, taking no short cuts. It is good to see that there is still some men who take time and have pride in their work too like this gentleman. I would loved to have him as an apprentice and taught him some of the old traditional methods we used back in the day. I'm sure he would have turned out an excellent craftsman. I still dabble in a bit of woodwork but at 83 the old hands are not as steady as they used to be.

Hi Ollie, I know I would just be repeating what everyone else has said in the comments, If I was to say, how brilliant it is watching you work, as you have so much pride in what you do and the end product always shows this. I wanted to add, your idea for fixing the shelf in the cabinet is brilliant but simple one (which are always the best), so even thou I know I would not be able to build an item up to your standard, I can take away this idea and use it in the future. So once again thank you for sharing your videos with us, as many other content makers have said, videoing and editing add a huge amount of time to every aspect of the build. P.s don’t worry about the length of your videos; they can never be too long!!

Hi Mate, thankyou for the kind words! Its great you can use an element of the build! The idea is you dont get better from watching things at a similar level that you are... Love it 😍 The trouble is I find pretty much the exact tangent where the curve leaves a straight line, is inversely proportional to making any money. It becomes a ‘fun’ and ‘enjoying the craft’ thing, rather than a keeping the lights on and food on the table thing 😜 Sticking to ‘boring’ square frames 😂

Haha! i think the right client it can become the other way around. I know a few guys who just do curved work and they make an exceptional living! I guess the key is being efficient with it! Making one piece every now and then isnt going to be profitable is it haha!

Top job mate... Sadly craftsman ain't seen for what they are nowadays given the mass production, machine cut and flat pack budget setups being put across the market. Only certain clientele will pay for this exceptional work and with that added cost, and the budget keeps rolling them out for less. Sadly it is the generation of IKEA that will far outweigh the craftsman for business. Meticulous attention to detail and excellent woodwork skills 👍

Didn't know they still made them glue rollers. Used to have one in the workshop when I was an apprentice in the early 80's. It was an antique then! But we're trend setters in Lancashire! 😂 I remember when we had to sand skirting boards before they went to site and we had this belt sander that had a bed on rollers which was about 8'x3' so the belts were about 16ft long. You had to pull down on this arm with a pad with a bit of old carpet on it and you just worked your way down and back to front and how much you took off depended on the pressure you applied. The edge of the belt was just flapping about rotating at high speed and would cut through a 4" nail in half a second! Very dangerous especially when a belt snapped. We thought we were the bees knees when we got a SCM wide belt sander in the early 90's! But we still had to sand the moulding by hand. 1000's of metres of it. Ah the good old days! 😂
