Very good presentation and a very good job well done! It looks great. Outstanding craftsmanship! 👍

When you make the jig use a fifth piece and stick it loose in the hole. Mark it up for centre and either drill a pilot hole or core out as you will for the latch mechanism. That way you have a piece you can take in and out. Router out for the face, stick the piece in and use it as a guide for the drilling. Also if you take out the full size then it should be enough thickness to also set up you up for drilling straight.

I just made one of these, so thanks. 👍 I have seen some with a deeper clamping plate and a platform on the other side to support a router but I have a little Bosch 12v router and it works well for stuff like this. Already have the trend template bit. And some knock off Amazon ones too.

Thanks Ollie. The fence is a brilliant idea. Finished making mine today and although I thought I'd set it up correctly (just like yours) I'm still getting the slightest bit of snipe on the trailing end of the stock. It's a double bevel on a tambour slat so still planty of meat left on the edge but i get the slightest amount of snipe (which is really bugging me!). Thanks for the video. Cheers, David

Thanks bradshaw joinery yet another excellent informative video. I am about to carry out this mod on my 420, but have another issue that you mention in the video, my 420 feels like it is trying to rip my hand off when in use and reckon that this is probably down to me cleaning it out, and separating the gearbox and drive, and as you mention that you have made the adjustment and rebalanced could you please provide some instructions on how this is done?

Attention to detail is phenomenal. I didn't realize screw alignment was a "thing." The commentary great, too, with lots of how-too as well as hard-learned tips -- but do watch for repeats! (That strings stuff out a bit -- its meant in an absolutely positive way - hopefully tightening the presentation will help you get a few more eyes on this awesome channel.)

Fantastic idea using the power feeder. I'm a big fan of the BMS 180 for a texture brushed finish... but it's a time consuming process with 3 to 4 passes with each of the 3 heads. I digress. The real magic happens (the smoothing final passes) with the sisal brush head, so maybe your supplier does a similar one. And yeah, a dust collection hood would be a boon as it's a real man-glitter generator 🙈

Great video thanks for taking the time to not only find a fix but share it. I had put off buying one after using friends with the issue. Finally bought a carvex and straight out the box before using it opened it up to find the pin pushed forward. 5 minutes later with a new grub screw and all set up working lovely!

I've got to say thank you!! Turned my basically unsafe and unusable Festool Carvex into a dream saw. This is how it should have come out of the factory. Mine has been collecting dust for a few years due to the poor cutting. Festool knows about the problem for sure due to the number of complaints and should be ashamed they have swept this under the rug and not taken accountability. Kudos to you for a cheap and easy fix. Thanks again!!

The sub structure (wall plate and ridge will have the curves in, then just cut each rafter from a measurement between bird mouth seat cut to point of rafter

Great video. Did some of this as a school project; many years ago. Now in retirement would like to take advantage of technology to set out the lettering. I have an IMac and a printer and have downloaded the Optimus Princepts but Oh boy, I'm missing the chunk of how to get it to paper! My age I guess. KZbin normally helps but I can't find anything that will guide me on how to type out a word, size, and print it. Can you help?

Reminds me of what I found from living in old houses with similar looking shelving in alcoves about how the original craftsmen did them, at least in the Victorian and Edwardian period - All the ones I’ve come across had both the back edge and the side ends buried into the plaster by about half and inch. Though I’m not sure if this was from them fitting the shelves before the walls were lime plastered, or channeling out the lime plaster to fit the shelves then making good after - My guess if the former so they didn’t have to allow for non square corners from sloppy plasterwork, as I bet the plasterers were just as bad back in the day! 🤣🤣🤣
