curving a bullet in fallout 3 using V.A.T.S (physics glitch)

it's a bug where the game calculates whether or not the vats shot will be a hit or a miss AFTER the weapon is fired.

@gaswerti only in theory. problem is that there are a lot of factors involved - distance and angle between you and the enemy, the enemy must have moved just slightly so the body part you targeted is technically out of reach... there are lots more, I don't even know about all of them. The only thing I know is it can only be done via V.A.T.S., it has to be done on very long range, and it only happens once in a while, even if you have maximum weapon skill. So, yes you can, but it's really fickle.

this is really cool with the automatic weapons, sometimes it looks like a whole burst is being dumped into their head from a random position just above them...

the reason that a bullets trajectory cannot be 'curved' is that the human wrist cannot move the departure point of the projectile (you know where the the bullet comes out) quickly enough. the projectile is only in contact with this departure point (the barrels muzzle) for thousands of a second. also the trajectory described by such a move if it were possible would not be a curve in the horozonatl axis but more of a deflection, like a ricochet.

this happens when you shoot somebody through vats who is already strongly covered and falls over prior to your next shot. since a shot given in vats which was determined a hit by the game MUST hit the enemy model, it does this so that the bullet does not collide with any other statel except the ones from the enemy. "Glitches" like this could also be seen on Mechwarrior 3, there you could see curving Lasers - because the game determined whether it's a hit the moment you fire the shot.

@khaoliang that is not completely true. i have seen many occasions where you have assigned attacks where once the sequence runs the target finds cover while you attack and you wont hit at all because the projectile hits the object the target is seeking cover. a very good example is . the bullet did not curve it was shot at a weird angle completely. probably a camera angle glitch in vats.

To the people who try to claim its "inaccuracy" yes the bullets flys off in a random direction.... but then it CURVES which is impossible and hits. So if the bullet hits, it is physically impossible for the gun to have shot wildly, but it does, hence its a glitch

ive done that before! with my laser riffle, i put about 5 actions, and all of them curved, missed my target badly. Yours killed him, but mine didnt, so it looked more like poor skills than glitch

I'm not an expert on the FO3 Physics engine, so maybe this is just a graphical misinterpretation of the physics engine (like some of the other weird glitches where peoples heads suddenly turned upside down and shit). The Mechwarrior 3 story(I'm not 100% sure it was the third installment of the series, but I AM in fact sure it was a Mechwarrior game and somewhat convinced it was #3) is true though; I've seen it myself and was like "CURVING lasers? Yeah, sure, game."
