Repairing and Rebuilding Antenna This is a 2 meter antenna freq. coverage of 135-160 mhz which makes it a good scanner antenna also SORRY !!! I SAID in video this was a dual band antenna I have had so many antennas I can't keep track of them

I used Mac's aluminum brighter from NAPA auto. Takes away all the tarnish, corrosion, and paint off without sanding or polishing. Works great on my old hustler 5btv, ringo ranger 6m and a maco v5000.

Another way to protect the cleaned aluminum elements is to use plain old paste car wax. Three coats should do it. Rub the paste car wax in, let it haze and polish it. Do this 3 times and it'll be pretty well protected. I use that on my mobile antennas and they look new after being in all kinds of weather.

I rebuilt mine a few weeks ago. It was up for 15 years and this time I used varnish and painted it black. Looks great and should last longer on the air. :)

They are not a high gain antenna But mine has talked over 30 miles once with my 2-meter hand held...It also makes a great cheap scanner antenna on VHF and UHF Freqs.

I was hoping you would mention connector replacement and how the tuning ring attaches to it.. Everything else is pretty easy.

I had the same issue of HIGH VSWR with my 2 meter Ringo after 25+ years of service. It turned out to be nothing to do with the antenna, but rather water got into the PL 259 connector. Installed new Silver Teflon PL259, sealed it up, and the VSWR improved dramatically. With 30 watts forward, measured on a Bird 43 meter, I had 300 Milliwatts coming back at mid band 146.520 Mhz. These antennas work great. I don't know if the poster of this video does so, but I replaced the hose clamps with new ones while I had the chance.

Good old Seal All great stuff saved me $200 junst for a part for my old Chevy S10 had a gas line leak on my 89 s10 it was right over the motor it was very hard to find but when I did I spent $2 for tube of this took some gas line hose cut it down the middle spread that Seal All all over inside put it on the line hose clamped it let it sit for a day took the claps off it l;asted 10 years newver did leak from that day on. I use it all the time now. The short line was not made anymore.

I had one about 30 years ago, and the dimple you talked about did not hold the lower pipe but acted as a stop for the insulator. Cushcraft use some kind of adhesive to hold that together, but lost it's hold after a few years out in the elements.

I have used paste wax on antennas that had plastic on them like the Signal Kicker and the AES Anteenna Sspecialist ones

While steel wool works great, it embeds steel whiskers into the aluminum, which can rust and corrode connections. Much better to use scotch bright type material. No possibility of rusting and cleans very well. Cheers!

I have used clear spray on laquer on A99 and Big Stick antennas after cleaning them with 000 or 0000 steel wool

I wound had to buy a whole new line from the ga tank to the carb & have 1 bent. But heres a good way to clean any antenna 000 steal wool a buddy of mine does all his antennas every 3 years he has used steal wool for the last 25 years cause it makes it look new and don't take to much off. if u take to much off it will make it so it will carode faster as far as the fiber glass parts use what they use on boats I have done A99 ant. brought them back life.

we had to take the insie out of it to cut it to freqs. it has a VHF when we got it but our friend at Motorola told us to use boat sealer it will last for yeas & not be efficted by UV rays or weathering. It allso gives it streath makes it stronger then even the stuff they use on the ant. when it is made. I cant think what I use to hold things it is called something Weld but it is a glue it will come off but it is strong to I just run it at the top it take about 50LBS to pull it apart it will hold

I forgot to you can usewhite distilled Vinger with the steal wool it will take little work to clean it up. i have helped C.Bers through the year with everything from PDL2s,Moonrakers,the old Star Dusters I had 4 through out the years alls took them down to clean them it helps on the RX. But you to have some greta ways to don't get me wrong.

Laquer is good it is cheaper then Boat sealer but we found that laquer didn't last as long as boat sealer laquer for 1 didn't hold up to the UV rays or the asicd rains the 1st rains of the year. I didnt know there was 0000 steal wool that wound be better yet to shine thins up allso with laquer it has cemicels in it that do raise the SWR a little we found I helped my buddies build a 220 repeater we were given a Motorola ant. made of fiberglass it had been up for a few years had some weathering

I'm wondering if that dimple was a physical stop in the aluminum to prevent over insertion of the plastic collar into the tube? A depth stop.

Is it possible for you to tell me what size screw or bolt I need to get in order to secure the mounting of the antenna over the mast? I've had one of these antennas for quite a long time and want to put it back up, however, I've lost a screw that secures it to the pole. Many thanks, Penn G0VQY

No It's Omni Directional Same as all ground plane Antennas they have very little gain but there Cheap
