Cushions 101: Introduction

What's the difference between conical and barrell cushions? Why would you choose one over the other and what function do each of them do?

All cushions - cones and barrels - serve the same basic function, which is to compress and allow for the pivoting motion that moves the trucks. Barrels are considered more stable, while cones are considered more responsive. If you have a choice in which shape to use, it's completely up to your preference!

Nice video! I can't find anywhere, though, is why to choose a different shape OR a different hardness. Let's say, I have medium hardness barrels and I'd like some more agility, why should I go for a softer barrel or for a conical shape but keeping the same hardness?

The softer the cushion, the easier it is to turn the wheels. Its up to personal preference and sometimes the skaters weight. I need softer cushions because im not heavy enough to get the wheels to turn with harder ones. The shapes depend on the brand of plates. Tapered ones can prevent them from hitting the wheels. Ive also heard the the conical type can help with agility?

I swear these concord plates the conical wont fit. The barrel fits where it goes though.
