If you have a newer version of Premiere there's an easier way to do this. On the EXPORT window, click on the EFFECTS tab. Select the checkbox for LOUDNESS NORMALIZATION. The "Loudness Standard" should be ITU BS.1770-3. Then I set the "Target Loudness" at -16, the "Tolerance" at 0.5 and the "Max True Peak Level" at -1.0. I then saved this as an Export Preset, so I didn't have to put it in every time.

I've recently switched from Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve, so unfortunately I don't have updated info beyond the pinned comment, which was working as of July 2024.

Much appreciated! Hours lost trying to fix this, much easier this way.

If you are using a Mac, the file location will likely be different and based on where you save your application files. For me it's under Users/(MyUserName)/Document/Adobe/Premier Pro/(version number)/Profile-(MyUserName)/Settings/Essential Sound/Default/Dialog Once you find it, open the (Config).essentialsound file with the TextEdit app, press CMD+F and type in "loudness", from there the process is the same.

LOL! 😂 Well, they say "if there's a will; there's a way." And I guess I had a pretty big will for this hack. Appreciate you.

I am able to change and save the source file successfully but when I reopen premiere the LUFS are still -23 :'( Does anyone know what the fix is?
@JoshuaVerwers8 ай бұрын
I had this happen to me once and the issue was when I had updated Premiere it changed my storage location. So, I had these source files in two locations and it was pulling from the wrong one. That being said, if you have an updated version of Premiere Pro, there's an easier way to accomplish this. 💡When you export, there's an "Effects" tab, under that is "Loudness Normalization" and you can set the level there. 👍🏼

Great tip! Saved me a ton of time trying to level my audio. As a reference, spec for web based audio (like internet ads) is -16 LUFS +/-2. Broadcast spec is -23 LUFS +/-2. This spec is provided so when ads play against your otherwise scheduled content they aren't blaringly loud.

Glad you found it helpful. I think Spotify & podcasts run at -16 LUFS as well. 🤔

Does this work for multiple clips or should this be added 1 clip at a time?
@JoshuaVerwers2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can select multiple clips at a time and click the Match Loudness. It will process one at a time, but will process all of them. That's how I do it.

@@JoshuaVerwers weird when i do that some go way louder than others randomly so thats why i thought maybe one at a time

Don't even use Premiere Pro but still watched it. Got me thinking though since just about every video I've done has used audio I either recorded or edited in Audacity that I need to look at where the settings are in it. Good info here Josh. Keep it up.

Thanks, brother. Yeah, for the longest time I just used the dB level to try and guage loudness, but kept noticing LUFS used for podcasting and saw this in Premiere Pro, so I figured a little investigating and try to come up with a work-around. 😁

Haha, if they have something similar you definitely want to use it. This has been a huge time saver for me and gets me a consistent volume throughout my videos. 👍🏻

so if I need mine at -27. change your -16 to -27 and keep the numbers the same?
@JoshuaVerwers27 күн бұрын
Yes, that should work. I did a test run with these a couple months back at -14, -16, -18 and -24 and they all worked when I later did a loudness analyzer.

Dude this is genius. Thanks for sharing! I just discovered the Auto-Match option in Essential Sound and noticed that the default -23 LUFs is making my audio way too low. The audio file I am working with is too loud and peaking above 0 db on the audio meter(clipping in the red), so I am trying to quickly bring it down. When I auto-match it drops the levels so the peaks are hitting around -14 db which is way too low for dialogue in my opinion. I want it to be peaking around -6 db (in the yellow just before it goes red on the audio meter). Going to adjust my default LUFs value to find what works best for me.

Haha, I don't know about that, but I'll take it anyways. I know I saw someone share this hack a few years ago and then found the levels around then as well. I just put them together. 😁
