Beautiful! You don’t need the neck peg, I always cut them off, the disc part is what keeps the head on, the hook part just makes it harder to take the head off

Ditto. I was going to comment the same thing. I always cut those hooks off. Not only is it easier to remove the head I n the future, it keeps excess stress off the shank of the neck peg during head removals. If THAT stretches/cracks/breaks, you’re in big trouble.

So cute in both versions! I reccomend warming the doll for two minutes in hot water, before removing the head. Then it's very soft. If you do it careful you will probably see if it's a problem. Best of luck!

1:28, add mod podge or fabric glue to your paints when repainting the scalps. Makes the paint flexible & less lightly to chip off when rerooting doll hair. 👍🏻

The important part of the neck peg is the disk part so as long as that is still there the head will stay on, the hooks are just to prevent the head from getting yanked off during play :)

there are special acryllics made for painting onto leather (I have decorated shoes with it) I recommend trying that out, it has much more flex ability

Not gonna lie, I got a bit nervous when you re-dunked her to glue the lashes, since hot water can remove unsealed acrylic paint, plus you can run the risk of cracking the paint with any head squishing. I've unfortunately learned that the hard way. One of my dolls has had her face redone several times for that reason. I've recently started putting the doll in a plastic bag and then dunking them, or putting a heating pad on them for head swapping 😊

The 'claw' section of a neck peg is not necessary. It just makes it harder to swap heads. Dolls in the 80s and early 90s did not have that claw, and those dolls' heads stay on just fine. I always use plastic nippers to clip off those claw bits whenever I rebody dolls.

It's ok if the piece of the neck peg falls off. You don't really need it on. I don't think makeup is a safe option for dolls, though. It may cause the vinyl to break down faster. Many doll customizers use chalk pastels for shading and makeup looks. And of course seal it in with a good acrylic sealant. Depending on the hair quality, the boil washes most likely fried it. I've had this happen. Usually, just gently pouring very hot water as a rinse is better.
