Great video, I enjoy watching these beauties taken apart and brought back together with a completely different personality. Looking forward to more. I’ve gotten several factory Blythes from AliExpress, I haven’t attempted any customizing but enjoy watching others.

Thank you so much! Yes it’s a wonderful kind of transformation! My next video will definitely be more Blythe customisation, not long to go... 😁

OMG Thanks so much for explaining how to take the head apart. It scares me taking the eye mech out. I always think I am going to crack the plastic. I like how you kept all the screws and parts together. What a great teacher🌹

I am in the process of deciding on a doll (or two or three) that I am going to do faceups on....my first face ups on dolls. Long ago I used to paint ceramics and did faces.....so???? We shall see. I love your videos! ;-)

Oh how exciting! I did a monster high doll face before I fell in love with Blythe, the large faces are certainly easier to work with, a wonderful canvas for expression! Best of luck once you've chosen your doll! Thank you ^_^

Hi! Sorry if you mentioned in the video but if you buy a factory painted doll, can you strip the factory painted face using acetone like Barbies for customs etc? I want to customise a Blythe doll but even the cheaper dolls are a bit expensive for me so I don't want to accidentially wreck one of them 😅 I will one day have a genuine doll and I want to learn all the dos and don'ts haha
@BethRamsden3 жыл бұрын
That’s a very good question! I actually don’t know I’m afraid 😅 The acetone on vinyl (barbie) might react differently than it would to hard plastic, it is possible that it might dissolve the plastic… (a piece of Lego left in acetone will melt away completely!) I will try to remember to test this before my next custom and I will come back and let you know though! Thank you so much for watching! 😄

@@BethRamsden Thank you for the reply! So I guess that when people buy dolls to repaint them, they buy blank face plates, is that right? I have found a doll on eBay that I want to use as a practice doll before buying one of the more expensive blythe dolls and she has a painted face so maybe I could swap her factory painted face with a blank face plate or can you buy totally blank dolls from somewhere? I'm a complete newbie with these dolls haha
@BethRamsden3 жыл бұрын
@@CS-td1nn from what I’ve seen, and what I do myself, people gently sand away the factory face paint. I use a very fine and high grit sandpaper so it doesn’t make too many scratches, and layer varnish/sealant before and between and after my new makeup layers. I have more customising videos that show this process too 😄 it’s also possible as you say to later your makeup on top of the original, or to use a blank face to start with 🙂 though you will still need layers of sealant to prepare and protect the face.

Oh and I have recently bought an AliExpress fake Blythe for just £8 total, so you might be able to find a cheaper one than you saw on eBay to start with!

@@BethRamsden I've seen that the face plate can be detached, there's a lady on eBay that sells mohair and she has face plates so I will see if I win this doll that I'm after and I'll just use her head as a test piece and get a blank one I think to repaint. I paint Paola Reina dolls which are so different to Blythe and I was a reborn doll artist so the world of BJD is totally brand new and anything other than reborning baby dolls is totally new to me too but I wanted to try a different kind of doll customising haha Blythes are interesting so I'll learn some more about them and I'll check your channel - I subbed to you too Thanks for all of your advice!

This is one of the best videos I've watched. I'm a newbie so forgive my innocent questions. Can you tell us where you bought your tools for this video, are they sold as a set and what brand etc? Thank you!

Hi! Thank you so much!! No problem at all! I'm only really using some phillips/flat screwdrivers in this one - They did come as a set that fits into the handle of a hammer (but It was a gift from a local shop so not sure about online sellers). I also mention the eyelets that I use in another video - they came from AliExpress, just look for "DIY tools mini metal eyelets mounted tools" and "metal eyelets grommets 1.5mm". Hope that helps! Thank you for watching! ^_^

The dome/scalp unscrews from the head, and unless it's glued in place, the soft scalp can then be pulled out of the slots in the hard dome :)

Attention Aliexpress custom doll buyers, I bought two dolls from the Cutebee Official Store last month and both of them have come out defective. Seller says it is impossible that the dolls are defective, that I have broken them.... I recommend not to evaluate until you have checked all the joints and wait a few days. Very bad plastic, loose joints, hardly fit for photography. Good luck.

I mostly shop on the AliExpress app, there are lots of super cheap and mid range fake Blythes there as well as individual parts if you search for face plates and body types. I hope you give it a go! I love my custom Blythe dolls so much 😄
