Here are a few clips and photos from my 1996 Toyota 4Runner bumper build.
I found a guy selling plans on the Yota Tech forums.
This is a 4wd truck I saved from the junkyard It had a blown head gasket with about 225,000 miles.
So far I've done the head gaskets and a paint job in Toyota nautical blue metallic.
Currently working on front and rear offroad bumpers. Next will be AC repairs. Finally, I'll replace the rear suspension along with front and rear bushings. Then maybe some cool rims and tires.
I've never worked with metal before, this has been a real learning experience. The hardest part was cutting out all of the parts from 1/4 and 1/8th inch steel.
We cut about half with a friends plasma cutter and the other half with an angle grinder.
I think the bumper is starting to look pretty good. I only have a few more parts to tac weld onto the bottom and finally the end caps.
Then I'll remove the bumper and weld the whole thing. Finally, I plan to acid etch the metal just before primer and paint.
