Finally a detailed guide on how to build custom cables. This is part 3 of an ongoing custom cable guide I am doing. In the first two parts I covered tools and materials and how to measure your cable lengths. With the three parts of the guide you have all of the information you need to build custom length, sleeved cables for your build. There is more coming.
I suggest you watch at 1080p so that you can see the smaller details.

Those crimpers are called "open barrel" crimpers. The way I was taught to use the crimper was to put the pin into the crimper, take a bite, put the wire in, then crimp. When cutting metallic sleeving...Harbor freight has some really cheap looking scissors that looks like they were hammered out of a piece of clothes hangar...that are actually carbon steel, really sharp, and work really well. When putting small pieces of heat shrink on the ends, put them on in the middle before your insert the wire, then move into position when you are ready to flame them. This saves the problem of trying to put a small piece of heat shrink on a nearly same size cable. I haven't done many computer cables, but I"ve done a LOT of military cables.

Ugh... I come across this just days after I've finished crimping my wires for my project. A project that I've put off due to procrastinating and because this isn't as easy as it looks. I've seen Jayz, Kyle's, and others videos, but this video... this is perfect! I did an okay job, but the explanation and the tip of using the needle pliers to clasp the end wings to the plaster to keep the crimp from moving is genius and outstanding! I'm kicking myself for not seeing this sooner. The crimping part was the hardest for me because it kept sliding off or moving. Now I know for future projects. Thanks!

Here’s a top tip from me. Use clear shrink tube when you’re melting the sleeving to the pin. Then you can see when it’s melted and you won’t over do it.

I sleeved my 24 pin and 2 pcie cables for about 10 dollars. I just bought standard cable extensions on ebay, figured out how to remove the cables and then sleeved them in 3 colours using sleeving i also got off ebay. It takes a fair bit of work when you're not used to it but I still got great looking custom sleeved cables for dirt cheap :D It works out much cheaper than buying wire/pins/connectors separately.

Great video as usual! I would like some more in depth guide on how to calculate lenghts when doing 90 (180, 270 etc) degree turns. For exemple an ATX cable could turn 90 degrees several times around the chassi. And also outgoing cables from a connector needs to come into next connector rotated. It would be nice to see a complete video where you do a complete ATX cable with lots of bends and you go through your measure and calculation.

This was much more helpful than the original Lutro Customs video from Nvidia, and the rehash of that method by Bitwit. I ordered some pre-sleeved wires from MainFrame Customs, and it appears they've changed up their method from when they were Lutro. Now they crimp the sleeve in with the first crimped wings.

How convenient? I spot this video in my KZbin feed as I'm sitting here sleeving a friend's PSU. A few of my methods differ from yours because it's what I find quickest/most comfortable with; but I'll definitely be using your "master length cable" method to ensure my cable cuts are all the same length. My first sleeving job (My own rig) has required me to redo it twice now due to sloppy worksmanship the first and second time. The third time I cleaned it up alot (I cut the cables to individual lengths so that they would naturally curve, helping them stay trained) but stuffed up a measurement on a SINGLE wire on the 24-pin so I gotta dive into that at some point in the near future and clean that up cause my OCD is tainting me about it... that means shortening 23 wires because 1 is shorter... *sigh*

how do you know what length to cut wires with 90/180 (left, right, up/down) bends? Every bend changes the length of the wire as outside radius needs to be longer than inside radius, etc. Do you measure for each individual wire?

You should buy pliers that they use in surgery(i don't know what they are called in english). You can use them to lock the sleeve very tight when melting the heat shrink to the connector. They also leave your both hands free. Tried and very, very useful.

You can use 18 or 16 awg, some connector pins have larger "wings" to help crimp around 16 awg though. I get my gear from Mainframe Customs, even shipping to Australia is reasonable. Then buy paracord locally. You'll be hard pressed putting paracord 550 on 16 awg though. You can use generic cripmers for the correct pins. The blue handled ones he's using are easy enough to get on amazon or ebay if you look around. I have one that looks the same and it says it's for 0.14-1.5mm2
