For you first timers it's a good idea to double check your extension cables with a continuity meter just to be sure nothing slipped while you were sleeving the extension cables. A little FYI for the beginners. You can buy a cheap multimeter at several vendors such as Amazon or Harbor Freight to name a few.

This is an excellent tutorial! I'm going to make my own custom length fan extensions because I'm sick of ugly daisy chaining my fan power and RGB connectors.

2:25 it is the difference between a car from foose and a car straight from the factory. one is insanely more expensive without allot of performance benefits but an insanely higher cool factor (it just looks and feels better), the other is still pretty badass if the dude building it at the time (on the line) was feelin' good. you are paying for that top notch feel.

think of it this way, if you are a professional in any physical field, you likely know of people better at it than you, and not even that, but better at certain details than you. so even if you could do it yourself, you would prefer that the other person do it. that has a value.

What's the technical name for these fan connectors? (E.g., in the same way that "ATX" or "Molex" is actually called Molex Mini-Fit)

Perfect. thanks. Do you make your temperture sensor Kable by your own and have the length of it any difference to the Value. Thanks

What size heatshrink do you use to sleeve up to the end of the anti-vandal switch assembly on CaseLabs cases? I'm having trouble finding heatshrink that fits over the ends of the assembly.

Thank you :) How many fans do you think it's safe to solder on one extension if I want to run one cable to my mobo ? I guess it would look less clutered if we cut the original fan cable at 3 cm of the fan then route one cable for a few fans.

does it say "SN-28B" on the sticker there on the left side on the handle? I think I have the same crimpers!

I have a cable on my Corsair h150i that is only two pins and it connects into my AIO fan header on the motherboard. I want to use an extension on it for routing purposes but the only extension I have is a 4-pin pwm extender. Is that an issue?

I have a question, so what is the point for this fan extension cable? Can you just plug the fan into the aquero?

After watching some of your custom cable videos and understanding it, I still wonder if there is an easy way to find out, which wire on the motherboard/gpu/ whatever goes to which pinout on the power supply. Is there or do you have to check on your original cables, that came with the Psu?

Great video, been following your work for years. I do have a question, each power supply is different. How do you know which pin go where and will work for that particular power supply?

There are several websites where you can get printouts for various PSUs, but you can also figure out the voltages of the pins using a multimeter

A bit late to the party, but for fully modular PSUs, you could also just make a 1:1 copy of the original cable. I'd still recommend to take the time and verify the pinout with a multimeter, just to be sure and make troubleshooting easier if the mistake didn't fry the PC

what is the difference between 22 gauge, 16 gauge and 18 gauge?
@aRealAndHumanManThing
@aRealAndHumanManThing 2 ай бұрын
A bit late, i know, but basically, 16AWG is the largest cable, 18AWG is mostly good enough and cheaper than 16, and 22AWG is much thinner, but enough for fans. In detail, they brought up how 16awg gives the best crimp results in one of the other diy cable videos (and the diameter gives you a bit more reserve for high wattage parts). 18awg is thinner, cheaper and technically good enough, so manufacturers often use it for all cables, and custom builders like Singularity use it for less power hungry applications like SATA cables. 22AWG is used for fans because you shouldn't need to go much bigger than the original, as long as you don't power several big fans with one split cable. For the AWG/gauge standard, it's "American wire gauge". The metric equivalent is the cut through area of the cable in mm², but I don't know the conversion rate. AWG: bigger number, smaller diameter mm²: bigger number, bigger diameter

Hey Mate, Awesome works and very clear guides, which make me feel comfortable to try my own :D. I want to start with making my own PWM extension cables... but I'm looking for those male fan PWM connectors with their crimps... I am looking like crazy but I can't find any that can ship to the Netherlands :( and looking through Molex's list of KK254 connectors I can't find these... Thanks!

Can I suggest that you turn your Autofocus off, and set your aperture to f5.6, set your focus to about 1m/3ft and your ISO can be easily used at 1600. If you are using a Sony, set the AF points to just ONE in the center of the frame and the focus tracking to slow.

Great guide, but imo sleeving each individual fan cable looks abit cleaner rather than 3/4 together and when doing so it eliminates the use of heatshrink!

If PSU manufactures finally get with the hint and make their PUS pin outs so that you can plug in fan extension cables directly into the PSU. This way we can select the color scheme of the cable separately when purchasing a PSU and not have to worry about cable extensions at all.

or a little module that uses normal 6pin or 8pin to split out more fan connector, but in a much neat way than anything we have now.
