Custom Camper Catastrophe

In the first couple thousand miles, it's expected to find issues with your camper. These are usually things overlooked during the build and final inspection, or things that have loosened up that need addressing. This Sprinter van conversion had enough wtf and shoddy work done to it it deserved a spot on our Piss poor Series.

Ive watched my fair share of build videos and was shocked to see how poor a "custom" van conversion can be. Interesting perspective on 80/20 too. Has me re-thinking this option. It would be funny if the original builder ever clicked on this video and saw you destroy their handiwork! Kind of wish you could have outed them so others could be made aware of the poor build quality before wasting hard earned cash. Would love to see a video on how to know if a van builder is legit or BS. How does a layperson know before plunking down their money? Great video, thank you!

Vanlife exploitation is nothing new, it was rampant in the '60-70s, and is once again happening. We see it from crappy RV manufacturers grabbing a piece of the trend to crappy home re-modelers turned van conversion experts. The best way to vet a builder is to ask for build references from them. If they won't give you a contact from a previous build, reconsider using them. Also make sure they have a good portfolio. We see plenty of work from independent and small builders that's top notch, not everything's piss poor, but there's enough of it that we felt it's worth calling it out to help others before it's too late. 80/20 serves it's purpose, we do use it in our shop... just not for everything. It comes in handy for some utility structures, and component mounting. Most importantly, if you are using it in a moving van -- USE Thread Lock! 😉😉

It's obvious you guys know what you're doing. What are the vintage toggle switches that you sourced for the van? Where do you get them and what company makes them? Great resto as usual...cheers.
