I do like bright, bold colours, as they immediately evoke joy and happiness, but there's a undeniable strong energy with those dark, muted colours you chose! Really amazing palette, I feel very inspired. ✨

Wonderful landscape palette! As I paint mainly landscapes, I love the depth and texture of Daniel Smith paints. Landscapes are more about knowing how your paints interact with each other and with water, i.e. how much they spread, which ones take over, which are more subtle, which neutralize, which create natural effects, etc. Certainly one can mix colors themselves from a basic palette of transparent, non-granulating colors, but you then miss out on the organic effects that mimic the science and random texture of nature. Thanks for sharing your growth as an artist, Ono!

A delicious video in every way- hopefully it relaxed you a fraction at least of how much it does us all! I found myself wanting to follow along after you by a few moments, dropping pure water in the middle of each colour sphere, to see the blooming characteristics and the more diluted version of each! Thankyou for what you’re doing, it’s really special.

Lovely subtle colours. Good to see this post. I have about half of these colours. I Can't do without a yellow shade for landscape, so its green gold or quin gold for me. I really like the kremer irgazine yellow rather than a mixed pigment version of green gold. Still pining for that serpentine loveliness, one of these days.... x

Ooh, Oto is back! I'm so looking forward to the Vlogmas-videos! But please don't wear yourself out. I also saw this shift in my colour preferences in use lately and I came to the conclusion that these colours are all over lately, they're quite modern in illustrations and especially items for children. Love the perylene maroon and perylene violet. A go-to colour for me is lately Phtalo Green with a tiny bit of sepia in it. And Indigo. And Quin Siena, especially watered down. And a mix of lots of Quin Rose and a bit of Yellow Ochre - such a beautiful shade of muted pink... I'm looking forward to your artistic explorations!! Did I mention that the music choice for this video was superb? Soo relaxing and subtly Christmassy. Could you tell me where to find it?
@eileent8989
@eileent8989 4 жыл бұрын
I find Transparent Red Iron Oxide very useful for landscape. Also Raw Sienna and Quin. Gold. Raw Sienna varies enormously across brands so there's lots of choice for that one. I'm also recently enjoying M Graham's Perylene Green. A useful landscape bright right now is DS's Lavender for shadows on snow. Generally speaking, my shadows everywhere are almost always violet, so I have/mix quite a few. Your choices are all luscious...not a wallflower among them...and your video has inspired me to run to the store, especially to try some of the granulating colors. However, most people have some sort of a budget for paint and also many new painters can become overwhelmed by too many paint choices, so it's great to know that most of these more neutralized landscape colors are easily mixed from brighter colors that may already be on your viewer's palettes. As you demonstrate these colors in future videos, it might be fun and useful to add a word about how each color could be mixed from commonly-used brighter colors and to remind your viewers that the "recipes" on the more neutralized colors' tubes can be helpful in that respect. Also, if one mixes one's own neutralized colors, one can usually add or subtract granulation (or other characteristics) from the target color by selecting for those characteristics from among constituent colors one already has. For example, to obtain a brown that will explode quickly across a wet page, Venetian Red is a good place to start. Another consideration is that mixing skills need to be kept current anyway. A new landscape painter who is planning on painting outdoors will find that she needs her mixing skills to be second nature... both because she won't be carrying much paint and because her paintings will probably dry faster out-of-doors than in the studio. Finally, even those without financial or studio space restraints might prefer to mix many of these colors to get the exact shade each painting needs...or to obtain what is my favorite moment of all in painting: when two colors mix on the paper, resulting in a passage of almost infinite color transitions between the two. I really enjoyed your video...such evocative colors...my mind moved among them from oceans to forests to deserts. Thanks very much.

Im loving your new videos! The two colors I absolutely love right now in the Daniel smith line for landscapes that you don’t have shown are Indian red (though the opacity can sometimes be an issue) and burnt tigers eye genuine. Green Apatite genuine is one I’m really enjoying as well but haven’t quite gotten used to. I recently got tigers eye genuine and it reminds me of German grn. Raw umber. It’s different and not quite what I expected though the more I use it the more I’m enjoying it. I really love DS genuine line!

I actually have some of the colors for your palette- haven't gotten into using them and have only swatched and experimented with mixing them together. @roberth9197
@roberth9197 4 жыл бұрын
Well some of the colours could be mixed more or less from other colours but whatever 'level' you are at there is a case for having favourite hues and tones ready for use (that is an interesting and complex debate perhaps). Also there are granulations in some of these that are unique.
@OtoKano

I totally understand some people love to create their own mixes all the time. Personally, I really don't have a problem with using convinience colors. Those wonderful colors are out there and available to us so why not enjoy them? We all have different opinions on whether to mix or not, that's the great thing about art, it all goes into our different styles.

Every artist doesn't like everything and everything related to creating art isn't their focus. Mixing colors and the calculations that go into making sure I have enough of what I need irritates me. It's the bottleneck in my creative process. There are no "rules" in how to create art.
