This is short video showing how I went about building a custom Hyperspin arcade cabinet. This is not a tutorial but a recap of sorts.
UPDATED version of my other video
fixed audio
*added links to files
I am no expert at sketchup or photoshop, as a result these files are not perfect but I believe they can be of much help in your own build. In this link you will be able to view and download the following:
4 pages in PDF detailing measurements. (slightly different shape under controll panel from final build)
*Editable photoshop files for Marquee and control panel. control panel dimensions are to exact scale for standard buttons.
*Google Schetchup file

I'm very impressed with this machine. Big display really makes the gameplay more fun and wide control panel is necessary. I always hated being too close to the other player and hitting each other with elbows. Also the bigger cabinet allows putting better speakers with subwoofer to use it as a jukebox too. The bottle holders are very nice touch. Great build.

Thanks for sharing this build, theres creative ideas that I really like. Also you seem to be pretty much the only DIY builder that put in a real mount for the screen, bonuspoint for that! Additionally you inspire me to make one of these for myself as a winter project, and I would love to if I only had the skills to set up the software/hyperspin and if I only had some skills to hook up buttons or even knew what parts I need to make one. But extra cred for being inspiring to that degree!

I am also gonna build my cabinet with your plans. I spent so much time with the hyperspin part that your plans will save me that much more time. I have all the parts already and the only changes I am making to your plans is removing the cup holders and moving a couple buttons. I am also placing an old lcd screen above my 42" LED as a hyper marquee display with the speakers on either side of it. That was easier than backlighting a plexiglassed paper marquee that i didn't have

Great video man! I also built my own arcade cabinet. Mine is one of the old school deep and square type of cabinets versus your shallow and wide model. However lately I've been wanting to make mine shallow and wide like yours because mine sticks out way to much. So thanks for posting a link to you plans. I will more than likely be using them and making a few tweaks since my flat panel is only 27" versus your 39".

Great build, I would love to see more videos about hyperspin specific details, such as how to get the emulators to function as they should without crashing/ video scaling when running a game, key mapping, sensitivity trackball settings, what emulators are used etc. . I have a 2tb rom set pre loaded with hyperspin and looks great, but the games are hit and miss, i’m sure there are a bunch of settings that need to be “tweaked“ and have noticed several bugs such as slow running games, key mapping issues with any controller, Video” V sync” and many other problems. I would love to see if anyone else has fixed them and can show a running system. Specifically hyperspin and emulator settings, would be super helpful to have your expertise on. Great upload and thank you for sharing your system! 👍🏽 💯
@Jenkyllllls
@Jenkyllllls 5 жыл бұрын
To fix this issue stop using Hyperspin. It DOES not work as well as either Launchbox or attract mode. If you want 100% working roms sets find the no intro set for launchbox or CP78 set for attract mode . If you pay for the premium launchbox version every game is pre setup for an xbox controller.

This is fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to share this with the world. I built a virtual pinball last year and have been working on prototype CP for my MAME/Arcade cab build and this video just made up my mind. Beautiful finished product. Looks like it came right out of a factory in Japan. I especially love the slimmer depth (Flat panel vs CRT) and the 2 player positions plus track ball real estate fill out the 16:9 space perfectly. Great job! My only question: Do you have any issues with stability during a vigorous gaming session with 2 people on joysticks (say fighting game)? or is it heavy enough? Did you attach it to the wall?

jaucent I used four 8' x 4' sheets of MDF (medium density fiberboard) with a thickness of 3/4''. $32 each at Home Depot. MDF is perfect for a cabinet in my opinion because it is easy to cut and does not splinter, it's easy to fix mistakes and and is smooth. A circular saw, router or orbital sander go through it like butter yet it is strong and very heavy.

great piece of work ,just love it. I'm going to build one myself but going with a 32" LCD monitor (true..not a "slow" response TV) and i mainly play shmups tated. The thing is..i get like a 27" 4:3 picture wich responds to shmups beeing played on a sega astro city (crt) wich are actually 29" of wich about 27" is real estate:) The problem is the following...i would go crazy if i sit this close as you do tbh so i backed of and found the spot to be like eyes to screen = 28" wich seem far away. So i'm gonna have to make some alterations to the making of distance wise ,just wanted to point this out to all the folks here to think it over carefully cause once built...better safe then grievance and sore eyes:)

I may want to lengthen the base in the back. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. You're a cool dude. EDIT: Im also using a Raspberry Pi and lighter audio so much less weight there.
@Jenkyllllls
@Jenkyllllls 5 жыл бұрын
Why you use raspberry PI? Almost everybody has a throw away PC. Take your old PC, install Launchbox. The only thing you might need to change on the PC is the HD or even better put it all on a portable and if you put your LB install and all the drivers on it you can take it with you and plug it into a different PC and it will work with an xbox controller. Then look for a no intro base set which is ready to go with almost no setup necessary. This has about 21k games in the base and is a little over 1TB (download is about 200 gb). Then you can do all games up to PS2 and can easily get 50k+ games opposed to a really limited PI. PS you are not wrong on the center of balance, this cab is slightly heavier in the rear. I used 2 - 2x4 and propped it up slightly after it was in location so the wheels are just off the ground as it feels more stable.

Great Job, exactly what I want to build, except using an X-Arcade controller and a modded XBOX with 18,000 games.

dude, what electronics are you using to map the joystick and button presses to the keyboard of the PC? I was looking at an x-arcade board but wanted to verify if I am on the right track or not. Thanks - awesome machine you built

X-Arcade works great. the pc reads it as a keyboard so it is really easy to map everything in MAME and Hyperspin just the way you want it.

awesome, I am on my way. Think Win XP will work for this? What is the minimum CPU you recommend?
