Thanks so much for sharing this video. It contained ALL of the information that I needed for a smooth installation. I cut the holes for the lights a little small and then gradually made them larger until they were the perfect size. My lights from Rough Country came with a wiring harness with a switch. I cut the switch off and tied the wires from each light together, then ran a wire off of those to the taillight and used the splice clips. You were dead-on with the reverse light being the white wire with gray stripe. I was so pleased when I completed the installation and they worked the first time I turned the key on. I don't think I would have attempted this without your video. Thanks again!

I know this video is a little ''older' now ... but ... I wish you had spent a little more time and shown a little more video of how to secure the nuts (through the back) as you tighten the bolts on the front. Did you COVER these big ol 1" holes that you drilled on the back, after installation? and if so, what did you use? To avoid drilling those holes, I tried to super glue the the tiny washer and nut in place, going through the opening in the front, gluing on the other side of the hole ... and it actually worked for 2 bolts, but didn't for the other two, so I gave up on that idea, and drilled the holes in the rear.(Plus, I''m the worst at using super glue ... all over my fingers.)

Loved your video, I went and ordered a set and will soon be installing the lights but I am taking the option to add a relay as mentioned by another. The question I had once the lights are installed, how did you get the wires out the channel, was it through one of the holes drilled for the screws. Again GREAT video, keep making these very informative tutorials. Also you mention using a 1 inch drill bit but the holes do not look that big??
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
+Joe Velez Thanks for the comment and positive feedback! Yeah you run the wire out the back of the bumper which will need holes drilling in it. I filled the hole with silicone to stop water getting back in. You can use a smaller drill bit then 1inch and if you find you need to make it bigger you can always bump it up until it fits. I hope this helps! Good luck on your install. Thanks for watching!

I like this install, because there is NOT ENOUGH light back there, and im too cheap to buy a new bumper. Not sure if you thought of this when you installed these but the holes in your bumper for your bolts / screws you should have an anti-crush sleeve running the length of the depth of the light with a washer to protect your plastic bumper. -Also you really have a hardon for lights don't you. Very curious as to what you need all the light for.
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
brendan haug Thanks for the comment! Just to satisfy your curiosity, i'll explain. I live in The Bahamas and there is a government import tax on auto parts of 60% plus shipping costs so as you can image auto parts can get very expensive. Just order a pair of them at amazon, I'm wondering if you have more less a measurement of the distance of the upper edge of the bumper to the upper edge of the flush lights to try to do a good positioning of the lights in the plastic bumper? For wiring did you connect the main power direct to the battery and use a relay activated by the backup wire? Or the power was supplied by the reverse wire from the taillights?

Hello. Love the video and the end result its just amazing. Planning to do it this upcoming weekend. Just have a question, that will highly appreciate of your feedback. How did you get the wires from the LED lights for these to come out from the back of the stop/revers lights. Your Friend from El Paso Texas... P. Aun.. Again Kudos on the video and on your jeep. :)
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Pablo Aun Id be more than happy to help you with this cool reverse light mod. What I did was, I took off the left taillight and found a spot inside the rear body panel where I was able to fish the wires down under the Jeep. Once the wire was under the Jeep I ran them to the rear bumper and connected them to the LED Lights. I hope this answers your question. If not feel free to send me a detailed email to dex@bahamasjeepclub.com and I will try make it a little bit clearer! Let me know how it turns out! :D Thanks again for watching!
@ENZOJAXSON9 жыл бұрын
AdventureDex Dex, Highly appreciate your feedback. I'm looking forward to the upcoming weekend to start working on the Amazing Bahamas Light Mod. Do you recall how big the gap was on the rear body panel. The reason for asking is due to the lights that I got from Rough Country (www.roughcountry.com/2-inch-led-square-flush-mount-lights-70803.html) do come with a very nice thick protective sleeve. Do i need to get a few feet of small wire gauge for this to be routed through the gap mentioned or is this of good size to fit the wire harness provided. Thanks
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
Pablo Aun Thanks again for your comment! The Led flush mounts I bought didn't come with a wire harness so I had to buy extra 16 gauge wires to run the lights to connect to the taillight so whenever I shift into reverse the lifts turn on. Since your does come with a wire harness I would use that to run the lights to the dash so you have a way of manually turning the lights on if necessary and I would also purchase some extra wires to steal some power from the reserve light. So basically what I would do if I was you....I would flush mount the led lights in the rear bumper, (be sure to measure twice and cut once, it can be a scary thing to do lol) then run the wire harness up into the cabin of the truck and to the front dash. I would then run a separate wire from the reverse light wire (which I believe is colored white&Grey) to the power of both led lights. Hopefully that all makes sense. I drew out a diagram of where I was running the wires to makes sure that it all made sense. Thanks again for watching. Let me know if you need me to draw you a diagram. Thanks.

Just recently bought a Wrangler and trying to be self-sufficient with my upgrades. So, stupid questions: 1) the 1" holes in the back, are they simply used for tightening the nuts onto the bolts, and then filled with silicone? Or did you get longer bolts to go all the way through? I ordered the lights already and saw the bolts weren't that long. 2) How did the connectors to the tail light wiring hold up? I do not know how to solder and planned on just doing what you did. Thanks!!
@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Nick! No questions is a stupid question! I started learning just like you are now! The holes in the back are to fit the socket inside to tighten the bolts they were not long enough to come all the way through. The silicon was to seal the holes so water did get inside and mess shit up. If you watch my latest rear bumper video, I have a comprehensive tutorial on how to wire lights into the taillight so they can be used as reverse lights. You don't need to solder, you can use a crimp tool and connectors. Thanks for watching! Don't forget to sub! #jeepwave

Dr Dex - do you remember the measurements for the holes from the top or the tire cut out? I am about to put in the same lights into my stock bumper - but figure you may have the measurements. Thx The NiLights hole needs to be 2 7/8 h by 3 3/8w but I am trying to figure out the placement of the holes....thx as always
@adventuredex7 жыл бұрын
Thanks alot for the comment bro! Unfortunately this video is from so many years ago that I do not recall. My best advice is to measure twice and cut once. It is always easier to cut the hole too small and then keep trimming until the light slides in. If you cut the hole too big then there is no going back. Also because the light has a lip around the edges it is not a big deal if the cut is not perfect because it will not be visible once the light is flush in place. Thanks for watching!

@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
+Trdawson44 Thanks for the comment! That is very strange, the only thing I can assume is that your wiring is somehow incorrect. There should be no interference between the headlights and the taillights. There are 2 steps that I can think of to try and fix this problem. 1. You can try removing your negative terminal on your battery, this will reset your Jeeps computer and hopefully fix this issue. 2. Go back over your wiring and be sure that you are connected to the correct wires and that you did no make any mistakes. If I remember correctly you should be connected to the Grey wire on the harness for the taillights. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Ok you weren't clear on the wires so can u help me out? You said run the positive to the black wire, then splice into the gray one with the white stripe for the reverse light. Thanks for the comment Jamual, The LED lights that I installed had a positive and negative feed only. What I did was I ran the positive feed to the power source for the reverse lights on the taillights (which in this case was gray with white strip wire) I than ran the negative to the ground. So I got some of these lights and installed according to Dex's video. All went well except when trying to bolt them in from behind the bumper. A little more detail would have been helpful and I'm guessing it was a bitch which is why it wasn't shown. I came up with a different way to access the screws from the rear by cutting in a little door behind each light.
@factionfx9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video and the link from amazon :). Nice to know I can just cut square holes. Is there some type of gasket on the back of the lights to keep them from vibrating against the bumper? (wearing the bumper paint and rattling)
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! factionfx The lights bolt in with 4 bolts which should not any vibrating but you could add some type of rubber gasket if you found one that fit properly! I have had no trouble with them at all since installation! My only recommendation would be to measure twice and cut once! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@factionfx9 жыл бұрын
I definitely will take my time measuring out the holes and cutting them :). Since they don't have a gasket, I'll probably just use some bike innertube. Thanks again!
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
factionfx No problem!! You could probably use a thin rubber or foam and cut out the center so the light slides through and the gasket lines up with the overlapping lip of the flush mount LED light. I used a piece of cardboard to measure the face of the light and then used that to measure the hole for the front and back of the bumper. Once you take the bumper off completely you will see that it has an awkward shape due to fitment of the rear tire but you can work around it like i did. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@factionfx9 жыл бұрын
AdventureDex Cool ideas. I saw those in the video. Mine are going on an F150; I think it will be an easier fit than yours :). I don't think there is anything behind the bumper.

@adventuredex I have a question can I get away with buying lights that don't have the holes where the screw goes? for example a light pod that doesn't or would you recommend this style of light due to the lights holding up better?

+Reps in Peace Thanks for the comment. For this installation, I chose to use the flush mount LED's for a few reasons. First the flush mount looks really clean, the lip covers all the cut lines. Also it makes the mounting very easy because you can put 4 bolts on each light to secure it. Hope that answers your questions! Thanks for watching!

Hey I have a 2014 ram 1500 and I was wondering if you think that the wiring on my tail lights are the same as yours because I want to do the same thing like you for a while but haven't gotten to it yet
@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Jordan! I am not sure if the wiring is the same but you could just gotta find the wire that leads to the reverse lights and tap into it. Thanks for watching!

on most pickup trucks it should be on the wiring harness under the bed, but you can find it easiest on the 7 way rv/trailer connector if you have one

Hey @adventuredex, I just ran a similar set on my 2011 JKU Sahara however..... I ran a harness from battery to a rocker on my dash and then back to the lights. I want to be able to turn on at will (I.e. for jackoff behind me with high beams, etc). My question is this..... can I run them through harness as I have them AND tap into reverse lights so they come on when in reverse? I am not sure if the reverse charge run will mess anything up. Thoughts?

Lights looks great but its not a good idea to power your led lights with the factory reverse light circuit. Its not designed to handle that much current. Instead use the 12v from factory reverse light circuit to trigger a relay, then connect the relay to your led bumper lights. This would involve running a single +12v wire to the battery though.

Thanks for your comment Shane Dass I am not an electrician but do have a general concept of how things work. What you're saying makes perfect sense. I have been planning on purchasing a Spod and use that as the main source for all the additional LED's. I hope am correct in assuming that this would resolve any power distribution issues. Thanks for watching!

The spod should work fine.

LEDs don’t draw that much. Probably less than your factory backup lights. You’ll be ok.
@RichGiordano-q8h7 ай бұрын
Dude. You need to power these on with a relay. Those wires are far too small to carry that amperage.

Do u feel the 18 watt lights r bright enough or after installing would u recommend a higher wattage reverse lights?
@adventuredex7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Jeff, they are 18 watt each so that is more than enough brightness. They work very well if you have a reserve camera as well. Check the link in the description. Thanks for watching!

thx for the reply. I do not have a reverse camera. I want to make sure I light up the garage good when I'm parking my Jeep in reverse. my wife pulls her car in, so room is tight and at night I want to LIGHT IT UP! :) Will the power tapping into the tail light be able to handle 24watt LEDS? is 24 watt overkill or just a lot brighter in ur opinion? thx
@adventuredex7 жыл бұрын
No worries Jeff! I would recommend these lights (goo.gl/7q1wCn) they are very bright and for the price you can't beat them. You are not going to be able to tell the difference between 18 Watt and 24 Watt. Both will be very bright in a small space like the garage. Hope this helps!

how did you wire the light it did not show us?
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
+robert nocera Thanks for your question! I ran the wire behind the rear bumper and up into the taillight compartment. I unscrewed the taillight and found the wire which is operates the reverse lights on the taillight (I believe this was the grey wire) I used a wire tap to join both lights. So when the Jeep is shifted into reverse, power is sent to the taillights and also the lights in the rear bumper! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

How big of square holes did you cut with the dremmel. What were the dimensions
@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
+brad dierzbicki Thanks for the comment Brad! Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact measurements as I did this install over a year ago however once you have the flush mount LED you can measure the part that needs to fit into the hole. It is approx 3" x 3". Remember that the LED has a lip so the hole in the back doesn't need to be perfect just enough for the back of the LED to slide into the hole and the rest will be covered by the lip. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
@MrHockey4life88 жыл бұрын
+AdventureDex thanks for the quick feedback, so if I start with a 3x3 hole I should be alright, just don't want to mess anything up
@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
+Brad Dierzbicki No problem! What I would recommend you do is get the LED flush mounts in hand and turn them around. You will see the body of the LED is smaller then the front face of the LED. You only need to cut out a hole for the body of the led to slide into...the front of the led is wider and will cover the rest of the hole. If I remember correctly the body of the LED is approx 3"x3"... however I would recommend getting the LED and measuring first. Using a template is always a good idea too. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

could i power the lights with the black wire but also put a switch for them in the cab of the jeep?
@adventuredex8 жыл бұрын
+Trey Ducote Thanks for the question! No that would not work, every light must be have a positive and negative connection. If you want to add a switch you must add another relay and circuit so it can be controlled via 2 ways. It is definitely possible to do you would just need to run 2 positive lines to the led light. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Do u no the measurements of the template?
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
+robert nocera Thanks for your comment bro, unfortunately I do not have the template anymore so I cannot give you the measurements. However, the template was homemade anyway and you can make one yourself. I simple used some stare cardboard and flipped the flush mount led face down and traced the faceplate onto the cardboard. Then I measured the lip of the faceplate of the led and the led square to get the measurement for the center which the back of the led needs to slide into. I hope this makes sense!! Thanks for watching!

+AdventureDex whats the best way to connect to the tail light if the connectors are no good
@adventuredex9 жыл бұрын
+robert nocera Thanks for the question. The best way to connect any electrical wiring is by Soldering. If you do not have the equipment to solder or know how to solder a very reliable way is to use butt connectors and a crimp tool to ensure a secure connection. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
