Despite the much lower wattage and utilizing 6L6 tubes it's quite remarkable how convincing it nails Pete's legendary live sound of that era. That spanking top end for both the clean and cranked tones sounds killer. Great job Hi-Tone.

6L6s are a 25 or 30 watt tube, comparable in power to EL34s, so no point in using those if you want to lower power. The other option is a 6V6 or EL84, both 12 watt tubes. So those tubes fit this low-wattage application better (though this tube is made 6V6s, you can't swap in a EL84

Instant Live at Leeds sound w/o the ear splitting volume! (although the 18 watts is still LOUD!!) :) [edit 9/18/2019] What I love about the CP is its versatility. Take the #2 input (bottom left). One can plug in a Telecaster and quite likely get a classic early Eagles tone out of it (think Bernie Leadon). It sounds very Fender-ish to my ears. #1 input seems to have the most gain. Inputs #3 and #4 sound closer to the classic DR inputs to my ears.

Bingo. Spot on. Pete almost always played in input 1

I'm assuming that this amp's inputs can be jumped (similar to a four input Marshall) allowing to blend between different channels?

@@montag4516 Yes, just like a regular DR series Hiwatt. I've even heard of a 1 to 4 splitter so you can use all 4 inputs if you fancy.

The ES335 with this amp sounded just fantastic! Matthew Page’s slide playing was fantastic as well! I can’t seem to find him anywhere though

@hi-tone Can you jumper the channels on this like a standard 4 input or no?

That does not suck at all. Obviously at 18 watts you get that breakup pretty quick. How loud does the 50 watt get before breakup? Keeping a close eye on these. 🍻

Which model of lowatt is best for garage rock/psych rock/ but also handles delays and reverbs? This one is sounding insanely good but so does the dg
@mattthrun-nowicki8641
@mattthrun-nowicki8641 3 жыл бұрын
This circuit is more like a ginormous blackface Fender….mid scooped, with almost Vox-like high end. The DG is basically a DR with the inputs already linked, and has a more “balanced” EQ, if that’s your thing.

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641 thanks for the input man I probably will going with the custom lowatt which is the DG but 18 watts Im pretty sure

@@benjaminfowler4513 All Lowatts are 18 watts. Like I said, the DG and DR are identical save for the linked input on the DG. The Lowatt JP has a little more gain, with the balance/footswitch, and the Lowatt SAP and Lead feel like they have even more gain and prominent mids. The Lowatt CP is more mid scooped. But all are 18 watts. You can’t go wrong with Hi-Tone, man!

Perfect rock n roll amp, plenty of balls without being gainy and not too loud. Man I want one so bad. Pete Townshend should have two of these. But he chooses to sound not as good as Leeds. Weird

@@tpp5151 I agree the Fender vibro king sounds great, but it's not that iconic sound of early 70's Who... I think Simon Townshend plays a hiwatt onstage instead of pete, but still not the same punch with the fenders. It's more of a mushy sound like an old marshall

What's the CP stand for I don't get it. DR for Dave Reeves, JP for Jimmy Page, DG for David Gilmour ... CP for Pete Townshend? Please explain LOL.
