What wire size you use or just get 170lb leader wire? Most of the baits I I’m going to make are normal baits line mirrorlures 2 5/8” MirrOdine, or jointed crank jerk bait etc nothing over 4” right now then going to learn to make my own Browns lures type jerk bait but different tails a d I want them to float or float a bit hen slowly I mean slowly sink thanks

Start simple, work with balsa, all you will need is hand tools. For painting and clear coating you'll have to get a few items but watch lots of videos for ideas on DIY and inexpensive products. Have fun.

Hi Franco. Thanks again for a very informative video but I do have a question for you. Have you ever used brass wire for a wire harness? I have a quantity of small diameter brass brazing rod. I know it is not as strong as stainless steel (but I think it would be strong enough) but it has good corrosion resistance and can be used in a hardened state or easily annealed to a softer state and it might give the lure an appealingly different look. What are your thoughts about this?
@EngineeredAngler

Brass brazing rod should be plenty strong... Go for it.

I found it curious that being a frugal engineer that you purchased the Du-Bro EZ Twist Pro instead of designing and building your own. Which leads me to believe that you considered it and found reason not to. I would love to have one but can’t justify the $200 price for the limited use I would have for it. I realize that to make a quality piece would require a milling machine. I’m just thinking about making one with files, drill press and a Porta-Bandsaw. Thoughts?
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 3 жыл бұрын
You're right I usually prefer to make simple machines and save the money and get the glory. This wire twister is actually the Twistech brand and I paid right at $80. Not cheap but, I needed something and didn't have time for the design and build process.

@@EngineeredAngler thanks for the explanation. Don’t know why I thought it was Du-Bro. The Twist tech is now $100, half the cost of the Du-Bro.

@zzz7zzz9 5 жыл бұрын
@@EngineeredAngler cool, so 20 gauge is plenty fine then. I figured so, but someone was looking at one of mine, and suggested it would need heavier wire, for large rainbows and salmon. They are used to seeing lures with those screw-in eyes, which are quite thick. People always seem to forget that the reel's drag will be doing all the work.
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 5 жыл бұрын
Yea...you have plenty of reserve strength in that wire.
@zzz7zzz9
@zzz7zzz9 5 жыл бұрын
@@EngineeredAngler thought so. And especially that it's one solid through-wire, and then also further encapsulated in the thick, hard clearcoat. As opposed to simple screw-eyes that aren't even glued in.

Hi mate I looked at the wire forming tool you used. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's a Twistech right? I've read up on the diameter of wire it can handle but I need something that can bend 16 gauge stainless steel wire (316L) which has a diameter of about 1.6mm. They're welding rods that I purchased to make my own sliders which is a form of fishing with live bait. Have you ever tried bending this thick a wire on the Twistech jig? Are you able to let me know if you do try? This would help so much as I'm looking at buying the Twistech wire fomer. Thanks in advance
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 5 жыл бұрын
Architeuthis Dux they have a heavy model that will just handle that size wire. it's called a Twist Tech Magnum you can find it on this website. I would just question the need for such a heavy wire... I'm sure you know what you're doing... But wire like that is at least a hundred and twenty thousand PSI tensile strength. just estimating in my head... that's close to 250 lb pull strength... Do you really need that much? www.poulsencascadetackle.com
