Nice video! As we mentioned on the Cold Harbour video the Boomslangs are designed specifically for the PVS-14. That particular standard housing size (the internal dimensions of the housing) limits what anyone can do in designing wide FOV optics. We can design 50 degrees with 25mm eye relief, it requires a totally different internal housing design from a standard PVS-14. Therefore, the Boomslangs were designed to provide 50 degrees FOV capability that is backward compatible to almost all PVS-14 type night vision goggles currently in use. The end goal was to minimize fisheye distortion prevalent on other wide FOV optics, while preserving as much clarity as possible edge to edge while drastically increasing situational awareness.

If you wanted to run goggles (like the ESS ones, for example), would you recommend these due to the eye relief difference? From the looks of it, the Boomslang seems more appropriate for use with glasses so you can set them as close as possible to the eye.
@michaelnyden80566 ай бұрын
What would the fov be with these optics but on a noisefighter or similar bridge?
@Martin429446 ай бұрын
10* more left to right. But also up and down and more fill in the center. I find with my rpnvgs I don’t usually run them fully out because I loose too much in the center. This is hopefully going to help with that.

Would you say the Carson/RPO is still a general all around good choice, where as the boomslang seems more specialized for if your really needing that FOV increase?
@customnightvision6 ай бұрын
Yeah man absolutely. these are all trade offs that come at a cost.
@heyarno5 ай бұрын
Did you test if that is the resolution limit of the optics, or if it scales up with a higher res tube? While I had to use a 25mm tube to get a 92° fov, I noticed, that I still got a rather strong magnification on the tube details when looking around in the image. Also the smallest 25mm tubes I'm aware of, are in 43mm format. Having 36mm tubes with 25mm screen and photocathode would be really nice in my opinion. But it seems the trend goes towards 16mm screens.

@@customnightvision they seem to work pretty well, they have like no distortion and the eye relief is over 20mm so they can be used even with gas masks (youll lose some fov but its still more than 40), the only disadvantage they have is ofc the reduced Resolution and apparently they also seem to have a slightly darker image,but i myself didnt notice that when using them. Its a combination of things. the optics manipulate the light on both sides to create an image that we consider acceptable (similar to what we would see unaided). Te further we move away from that the less usable the image gets for use in the helmet mounted format.
