Really good to see somebody who works in the industry not jumping on every new "standards" bandwagon. It's refreshing to not have the latest and "greatest" tech being rammed down our throats. I'm appreciative that progression is good but God we can't all buy a new bike every year. I just got myself an Orange Five Factory 2016 second hand and it's phenomenal, it was nearly £5000 new and I got it for less than a third of that and a 66 degree head angle will do me fine!! Keep up the content dude, like to see your opinion on things.
@PedalingDave5 жыл бұрын
@nathan fagan, I agree. For most normal riders, imho of course, the gains from new tech are marginal at best year to year. The biggest bang for the buck will be lighter/stiffer wheels.
@jimanastasio1925 жыл бұрын
I also want to mention that as a car guy, I have a fully stocked tool box at home. I did not buy a multi-tool. I simply replaced all of the Torx and Phillips head fasteners on my bikes with cap screws (with the exception of rotor hardware and brake bleed plugs). That way, all I have to carry is a cheap hardware store Allen Wrench set on the trail. Because my bikes are inspected and tuned after every ride I rarely have to use them. I'd like to also state that I still run tube tires and haven't had a flat on the trail since 2009. And I ride hard. I love bare broken bedrock. The flats stopped when I switched from Maxxis to Kenda tires. See, my riding philosophy is all about having fun. I'm not a competitive rider and don't obsess over weight. Comfort, reliability and capability.

Great video Mike. Love the patio chair. I enjoy working on and customizing my bikes as much as I do riding them and your tech videos have been very helpful. I have a lot of experience with modifying cars so I'm taking to the bike stuff pretty quickly. I'm surprised at the number of riders I see nursing or pushing their bikes due to minor problems they don't know how to fix. You know, things like dragging brakes or tweaked derailleurs. It gives me a chance to pay hero, but I always recommend your channel. These people carry multi-tools because the bike shop salesman told them they need it, but they don't show them how to use it. And of course, they should. It amazes me that people can enjoy riding without really educating themselves on the equipment they use. I mean, I just bought a really clean 2014 Giant Reign X1 and I really like it. But it had a chain drop problem that I think was caused by the fact that there was too big of a difference in the size if the chain rings (a 2x10 using 36t and 22t rings). I swapped in a 24t and was able to tune the problem away. I thought 1st gear was too low to be useful anyway. The previous owner said the bike didn't climb well. He should have tried sliding the seat forward a little. The bike isn't a skyrocket, but it will climb and it's comfortable while doing so. Learning to dial in your bike is a skill worth its weight in gold.

What are you doing to run Atlas pedals on carbon cranks? Spacer or did you just cutout the crank arm boot? I'm with you on the WTB tires, I tore the bead off a Minion DHR2, WTB much more durable. Respect running the Judge 2.4, my fav tire, I use it front/rear with HG/Tough. Some complain they're too heavy, I don't notice. You don't have any issues with the harder rubber fast rolling rear slipping? Great bike build, well chosen components package, only changes I'd make are saddle (WTB) , chainguide with bash (OneUp) and dropper I'd go PNW Rainer as it's serviceable at home.
@TheLostCo5 жыл бұрын
I cut the crank boots and always use pedal washers. The Judge is a badass tire! I prefer a harder compound in the rear as the tire will wear down slower and will be easier to break loose in corners.

And on the bolt on the right leg is a note saying 10ml as well, but does this apply to the left leg too? 🤔 Thanks for any answeres🙃

Something I can’t understand. If most of us use the rear brake more, why not put a 200 on the back and a 180 on the front? Bigger rotors in back make more sense to me.
@Roaming505 жыл бұрын
Mtb Go well the rear is more about controlling speed over absolute stopping. As long as you’re not overheating the rear on long descents then why have a rotor that’s larger than necessary? On my trail bike I run 180 front and 160 rear XTs and I can lock up the rear with my pinky so I hardly need a larger brake. My fat bike is another matter though...
