As always, thanks TONS, Court, for doing your part. I feel decades behind, so I am immensely thankful that you have gotten so in-depth with so many manufacturers, shops, and riders on so many fantastic reviews. Now I just need to figure out how to afford 3-5 new bikes in the next few years (before I feel too old to ride them). 😆

Absolutely outstanding video. I came back to find this video after watching it sometime ago. I wanted to tell you this sold me on the idea of an electric fat bike. Thank you for sharing , you have a new subscriber.

I wish you would have asked about how far the battery will take him and where he charges it and what happens if he doesn't charge it over night (bike too heavy to go very far)..
@geraldhenrickson74724 жыл бұрын
It varies so greatly its not much help to ask. Fully loaded my Yamaha Haibike will go 15 to 50 miles depending on how much you ask of the motor. Its all up to you. My absolute record is 95 miles but I did much/most of the work and there were no hills. Hills are a huge drain. You charge every chance you get.

This is an interesting bike! I am a huge outdoors and camping guy, and i recently bought a fatbike (for cheap) and planning to upgrade it with an electric hub, and use the old tire to make a 1 wheel cart. Solar powered continiously, and hopefully with a wind/water generator to charge 4× (or more) makita 6Ah batteries Once on camp. To extend the range i can travel to the maximum. Gonna put cool stuff like lazers, ledbars, planetary gears and a belt drive on it. This will probably be horribly heavy, and i do not know if it is feasable yet. Maybe the human machine is more efficient. Hmu with some tips, hints and your opinion!

Thanks to Frankie, we finally have a genuine man-on-the-street review of the still new SRAM EX1 8 speed cassette @7:14 I would love to know what wheels he has... I still prefer the Old Man Mountain racks on the other fat bike you reviewed - the Felt Outfitter electricbikereview.com/felt/outfitter/
@ElectricBikeReview7 жыл бұрын
I listed the wheels in the video description with a link, but the wheels I found were a different color (maybe they don't make orange anymore since he built his setup several years back and was in Germany)

I’m curious how he got his bike over to the US since air carriers don’t allow transport of these kinds of Li-ion batteries.. I have run into this since I want to take my e-bike with me on my travels.
@ElectricBikeReview7 жыл бұрын
Hi Wade, great question there! I asked Frankie just for you and he said that he was able to ship the bike easily using Lufthansa airlines (just had to pack it with plastic or wrap it) and that he purchased a used battery from Joe at Motostrano once he arrived in the USA. And, he was able to get matching stickers to make his bike look nice by searching on eBay in Germany before he left :D
@healer817 жыл бұрын
Did he mention how far he can go on one charge and how he recharges the battery?
@ElectricBikeReview7 жыл бұрын
Not directly, he did say that he turns the bike off when riding on flat paved sections... so I'm guessing that he gets excellent range and only uses the lower levels of assist most of the time

Funny, 'The US is so behind'. There are reasons for that. I guess he realizes now that you are our voice for 'e' bikes, but I am wondering why let anyone in on the secret, lets keep 'e' bikes to ourselves, its kind of like we are the only ones on the block whose parents bought us a Schwinn varsity when they first came out. I wanted to know how smooth is the ride with his configuration on the flat road, using the fat tire option? Or does he use the fat tire for off road and the other one for road rides? Also how in the world did he get 2 bikes from Ger. to Ca.? It's not like one can be tucked into a carry on. I missing someone with 2 bikes. His stuff animals are the same as your Prius puppy. How does tubeless and no spokes make it easier to change a tire? I would love to do this, but from NJ/NYC to Wash. state traveling on the Canadian border, then down to San Diego. Then take a plane home.

Yeah, I thought about editing that part out because so much of the interview is positive... but I think he's just passionate and been a part of this for so long. We are definitely getting into it as a nation, whereas it is "normal" in much of the world now. He shipped the bikes via Lufthansa air and bought used batteries when he got to the US, he had ordered some decals to make the packs match before leaving Germany (said you can find them on eBay Germany). I also liked his bunnies (and the little kangaroo)

Europeans are very passionate about their technology, I suppose proud of their homeland, but most countries like to say their technology/inventions are the best, when they come here, lol. I find it amusing. I am torn about which eBike to go for in 2018, so many good ones now. Stromer is amazing, but there are $5k-$7 bikes that seem to be up there and can match with the $10k bikes. If you posted a matrix of the $5k to $10k with all the features, performance, price as part of the X, Y, it would get a lot of attention, but maybe you have to stay impartial.

Question how does he charge his bike in the middle of nowhere when camping? .
@ElectricBikeReview7 жыл бұрын
Many places in Germany have solar charging outposts apparently, so you can mountain bike and still charge remotely. Other people bring multiple packs, and some people have their own special solar chargers :D
@gunnar66747 жыл бұрын
Touring with an electric bike doesn't make much sense unless you have a purpose built recumbent with a huge solar roof. The setup in this video would be good for overnighters where you go out in the forest, do some fishing, amateur radio and camping, and then go home the next day. Solar charging doesn't make sense unless you stay in the same place the whole day and know it will be sunny. I'd be happy to he proven wrong.
