Curtis did you notice the green LED went out when you moved the thermostat wire? I thought the solid green and solid red meant it was in standby mode and there was no call for heat. Perhaps a loose thermostat wire? The green led did come back on, but I did notice when you moved the wire, it flickered off. It happened when you touched the blue thermostat wire. Good video.

One way you can prove this, and don’t do it if you’re not comfortable, it take your meter leads and use a jump across them bridging them. Put one lead on 24 and one lead on the green to prove that board is bad and the blower is also good. This has saved me many times.

that's pretty common on older units, especially when the inner metal shield isn't put back on right after lighting the pilot. look on top the tank around the draft hood for signs of spill out, they'll darken the top of tank, melt the plastic bushings around the water nipples and corrode them too. I've seen many tanks over the last 30 years of working for slumlords and remodeling. many I have shut down and or called the gas company and fire department to shut them down, because they were dumping CO into the homes! I don't mess around when there's potential to harm or kill people!
@jamesfitzsimmons381
@jamesfitzsimmons381 Жыл бұрын
@@throttlebottle5906 hard to get a real good view of the plastic rings around the pipe still think it would be a good idea to check the tank flue passage / and the draft plus the stainless cover for proper placement. I don’t disagree you at all. Except in the years seen that brown discoloration of poorly vented HwH. And you’re correct about the melting plastic. Seen that a lot on downdrafting

You can make your own EC motor tester if you snag a used plug, or if you have good dexterity.. I used to rig up 120V line and 24V communication Then once i got some plugs i made a ec tester kit with multiple plugs. Most have 2 pins 120V and the rest are speed 24V and a GRND. I use the same kit for bryant, carrier, napoleon, and ICP Nowadays i usually see the ec motor board inside the motor lol. Nice vid Wolf Steel furnaces will run blower continuously on high without any communication voltage. Some other make do the same, if you pull communication wires and the blower turns on it could be the control board.

I have seen people hand light them when ignitor is bad, heck I've done it myself before, using a "torch though", to get a few run cycles of heat into a home. of course that means sitting there baby-sitting it, but it's not bad when there's good airflow and it doesn't hit high limit. it can run for an hour or more heating a cold home.

Would u say a bad transistor would cause a drop in voltage from 24 to 15?
@guytech7310
@guytech7310 Жыл бұрын
Unlikely either a transistors shorts closed or shorts open. Never stuck at 15. My guess is that 15V is the right voltage. Looking up the status code, the error is a "pressure switch closed fault". Maybe a flue obstruction causing the furnace into lockout mode. That might explain why the flue pipe wasn't connected as it an obstruction causing the pipe to become disconnected.

Nordyne uses a "Expansion Port" plug on the board to connect their "variable speed" Blower Motor Control Board when they use an ECM Motor. I feel you likely have a failed ECM Module in the Motor, as they are a common failure on them. As crazy as it sounds, I can tell you that with a Nordyne the control board for the blower can be programmed to run at a rate higher than what the motor is capable of and literally make it self destruct, so be very diligent on making sure the CFM is set correctly on the Furnace/HP settings. God I hate Nordyne!!!
@HVACGUY

@rkochair
@rkochair Жыл бұрын
Quite often, maybe 80% + of the time the ECM has a burnt thermistor on it which if you pull it off it is obvious. Black round disc soldered into the board - size of a quarter or fifty cent piece depending on whether a 1/2 or 3/4 hp. The part is like $3 online and it is rather easy to replace. In lieu of replacing motor I offer fixing it and have done 2 so far with success. Some people just want a new motor so you give them what they want.

Most likely the motor inverter. Like you said, it’s real easy to check. The burn mark is pretty obvious. It helps immeasurably to have an ECM tester on Nordyne furnaces when you’re not sure if it’s the fan board or the motor.

Why was there no way to jump out the blower motor? Don't you have an ecm tester that can send the right power directly to the motor itself?

Yes, but this has a factory specific hook up that doesn’t match anything I have. That hook up on the bottom right of the second board goes directly to the motor, then I had now good way to jump 24v to the board,

There are regulations to follow. The two main ones are how much airflow you get to the room for the fire, and what size the vent pipes are. I'd like to see a drain oan on that hot water tank, but its not regulated. The bottom of the furnace csn get wet without damaging it.
