Not true these days. I have a 307 xsi. Over a decade ago, some idiot in a Carpark reverse hit Volvo v40 into my car on the passenger front side at full speed from 300m away. My pug was 2 years older than his. My car had 3k worth of repairs but his car car was a write off.

Dude was trying to explain that the Merc came out of the bend in the middle of the road, he panicked and he pulled right to retreat on the side you do feel you are supposed to be on, as an European driver you do have that reflex and it is hard to overcome it, especially if you have more years driving on the right side of the road than you have driving on the left side.

@@DaftFader Trust me when I say that don't matter when it's one person's word against another.Some drove right into the side of me on a roundabout wrote my car off.They admitted it when they got out then changed their minds later on insurance advice as no independent witnesses.I would have had to change the laws of physics to drive my nearside in his front end. Still made no difference.Police don't do any reports or allocate blame even when they attend and see the obvious like in this case.

You would think he would have stayed with the customer or had a sales rep stay with him. If you give your car keys to someone or even leave them in your car then most insurance companies will not cover you for theft. At least that's what it says in the small print on my insurance.

I thought the Jaguar’s guy story was clear. The Mercedes guy was supposedly driving in the middle of the road. So the Jaguar guy moved to the right (which was the wrong way) to avoid the Mercedes. But the Mercedes also moved to that same side to try and get back in lane colliding. There is definitely two sides. He needs a lawyer that can translate his story for him.

Really difficult for the Mercedes driver, but fortunately in the UK we are lucky to have really good value insurance and his premium shouldn't double. It may go up slightly, but equally, his renewal could still end up cheaper.

Best way to make sure that can’t happen again. Is to get the security gates on auto close, so they can only drive out once you open them. The fact that he took it without permission is a bit worrying. So maybe the accident happened to prevent him stealing it. Some policies allow you to drive other cars third party. He might get away with a fine for no road tax.

My guess is foreign guy is telling the truth.. old guy drifted out his lane round the bend as the locals always do in them quiet villages and met matey boy head on, old guy swung back onto his side of the road but the foreign guy seeing old guy so far out darted to the right too thinking older guy would stay out wide and thats where they met... just my opinion as older people in quiet villages like that drive like absolute shit

Well that is one hellish experience for Mercedes man on all counts. Calvin has done well there to get payment from yellow t-shirt man. Being a Johnny Foreigner perhaps his first time driving on the "correct" UK side of the road. Reminded me what fabulous looking cars the earlier XF's are. Let's hope Mercedes man has protected no claims bonus etc. and is well cared for by his insurance company. Thank you.
