That is the official OBD diagnostic device used by Volkswagen dealerships. It is the official tool for diagnosing Volkswagen / Audi / Seat / Skoda type vehicles - scans error codes reported by the ECU, reprograms the ECU, makes codings to the memory etc. The blinking blue light is indicating that the device is trying to connect to the ODIS software on a computer, via bluetooth. If that is a legit device and not a bootleg, it is very expensive (around 1000 euro or so). Nice one! Respect, sir.

Common problem with the vas6154 - even the manufacturer themselves says not to shove the connector too hard - there's also no warranty from manufacturer, you'd have to pay to get the VAS repaired/replaced . . . Luckily we have people like Alex who can do it much better

Thank you so much, I am an oilfield operations manager where many of our electronics equipped tools fail due to harsh environment. I watch your video and I got inspired by the techniques you have. I do have one engineer who is keen to work with electronics and keep asking me to provide him with the proper repair tools so we would save tens of thousands. After watching your video I have messaged him to follow your guidelines and I will make sure he has everything he asks for. Your video also provided me the proper justification of why we need to buy expensive tools rather than having off the shelves stuff. Thanks again

You can use UV Gel (the ones that nail designer use to make fake nails) to secure the connector pins after the work is done. When cured it turns very hard. I use it to secure small connectors when the support pads are missing, its stronger than hot glue. You just need to scuff the area a bit so it has good grip.

I find it funny too, back in 2014 when I went to community College for fiber optics class you had to use eye goggles and make sure not to look at that light. The way tonensure safety was to look at the light signal through a dedicated tester so your eyes didn't get burned by the light. Same principle with the uv light in the video, all the screens in the world aren't the original source and act as a filter protecting our eyes automatically.

It sucks for me...I was able to solder like a pro by the time I was 15... Sadly when I was in my early 20s I ended up being diagnosed with MS. These days I just don't have the steady hand for it anymore, and also things have only gotten smaller on the IC. These days, I will solder simple jobs, but don't get to tinker like I did in my younger days. Still hoping one day the nerve/ muscle issues in my hands and arms recedes, and my skill is able to return. I miss it...

I have repaired a similar board with a connector breakage like that by soldering a usb cable directly to the board. You can't always do this in all cases as you need to make a knot in the cable to store inside the case that sits where the connector would. This stops the cable being pulled out of the device. Those connectors are awfully weak and those large mounting pads being ripped off would weaken it further. I consider this a repair, but not a lasting one in the real world.

I work for a VW dealer and we have a guy that fixes ours for the exact thing. 6154a is about $1200 USD and that connector gets pushed in SUPER easy. Watching this I feel like I need to tip our repair guy a bit more.

If it’s the OBD interface sold for Volkswagen by SnapOn tools, or a generic from Walmart, OBD II , EOBD II and CAN are what they are. The interface I use for my wife’s Beetle is just two pcbs connected by the 16 terminals with no housing and it works fine. Don’t spend to much of your valuable time on the repair unless it holds sentimental value for your customer. They are too easily replaced for very little $$. Just my opinion.
