KZbin randomly suggested this and I have to say I’m glad it did. I’m a fellow P&D driver from north of the border in the Canadian Maritimes. I’ve been doing it for 5 years now. Best trucking job I’ve ever had. It’s great to see someone who seems to love the job as much as I do. So many guys up here just don’t want to do it. I’m one of only 3 in our terminal that covers 2 whole provinces. I’m looking forward to catching up on your back catalogue of videos.

I used drive a 22 ft box catering truck in my younger days, and was proficient enough to back it up to a DC-10 without damage, but when I changed jobs and tried a semi, that additional pivot point was something I could never manage while backing up. You, sir, make it look so easy! :)

Got hired at OD with my permit and have now been on my own for about a month. Pretty rough when every stop is unknown 😂. Google maps satellite and walking in from the street helps a ton. Loving it so far but P&D in SoCal with a 53 or even a 48 is tough.

I ALMOST went to work for Estes, as a P&D driver in eastern Wisconsin, earlier this year. Fortunately for me, my company saw the light and made some changes to the schedule, so I stayed put. It's HARD to move on when you've been at a place for 10 years! I have to say though, after watching this video and recalling what the terminal manager told me, Estes looks like a decent place to work!

Fire engine, “Crash” truck (volunteer rescue squad) or a ladder truck forwards or backwards, piece of cake. Ladder truck front cab or tiller I’m okay with. But, backing a tractor trailer-nope. I tried it for two weeks one summer and I was informed at the end of two weeks that I made more friends as people would gather at the loading docks to laugh at me as I took more attempts than anyone before. I finally just pulled around the building and someone with a forklift would have to help me. I moved on to working as a fishing guide in Yellowstone National Park for the remainder of the summer. I really enjoyed the guide job.

I had a huge Snap On Chip Foose autographed, custom painted tool box that was a drawing winner, one of 10 in the country on my deliveries one day. You know it had 2 fork holes, 1 in the front, 1 in the back, and the front corner crushed in. It was valued way over $10 grand. Don't know how that was resolved, but I never saw another shipment. Of course the guy refused it after a long string of phone calls. It was also a residential delivery in a not so great place for a truck. I'm sure Rob Estes enjoyed that info...

A frosty Gatorade and small pouch of beef jerky, and offered it to driver. Mill on skid was lowered for my Full and complete inspection, and the driver also went beyond curbside delivery requirements, and helped get 2000Lb Mill up the drive and into the garage. Jerky is GOLD .😋

Toledo City Driver Mike Darr here, damage happens and there are many reasons for it. We all have to work Together on the pick up side and delivery side. I've refused a pickup ( with the approval of dispatch) before. It was 2 pallets of asphalt patch weighing 3,300lbs each because it required a lift gate. The shipper broke the 2 pallets into 3 pallets to balance out the weight more. We have to look out for the guy delivering it too.

The KZbin recommendations brought me here I have no interest in becoming a truck driver (my stress meter already maxes out with me doing things that won’t kill anyone if i do screw up badly) And when i would go for a wander off campus when i was at college (i would go for a wander when i had nothing else to do), there was a place that i would often walk past that sometimes had a truck parked in the entrance from the main road (presumably for making a delivery), i would make sure that there was no one in the cab before walking past it, since because trucks here don’t have a “nose”, i am pretty certain i would be in a blind spot

Great video Chuck! I am doing my road test for XPO doing linehaul today. Only downside is the fact that the service center is 2 hours from home but the money and experience is worth it! Do you have any tips for linehaul? There won't be any layover thankfully.

My suggestion is always get a goodnight rest, never be rushed and or feel rushed remember and I means always put this in your head your safety always comes first. Goodluck I’ve been with xpo for over two years now, currently 1.3 as a DSR it’s a tough job but worth it for the experience

Now having to be fair to XPO, they gave me a big break, fresh out of school, got experience off the books, but they were my first gig. Put me on linehaul and a forklift, had to figure out the system, and how the heck to hook doubles (for a guy 140 pounds, with cannoli arms, it was an argument, especially going from a 53’ to pups). Show up and they gave me a rig. Most of the appeal was they had ten speeds if you preferred. Apparently the money was good, but the hours are harsh, the single screw daycabs are rough. Not my cup of tea, was there but a few month, but they gave me a push, and now I got the best job I’ve ever had. Oh, those driver cameras, good luck with that. Coolest part of the job was when you had freight for those you know. I’m from Pittsburgh, but was getting unloaded at another terminal, but I just happen to look down at the sticker, and it’s to a family friend. Wrote “loaded in (city) by (my name). Was a really cool moment. Best part of freight is when you make a tangible difference. Now when I see their fire pit, I know I had a part in moving those bricks. Feels great.

For additional safety, I blow my air horn twice prior to reversing.

Pretty much my life in one way shape or form for 40 years 28 of those at the same company until I was medically retired with a heart failure diagnosis 2 years ago 6 days from today. Not so much electronics ( small family operated outfit so if it ain't broke don't fix it) but getting by with the dog-eared Chicago Tribune map book and 2 way/CB radio to my smartphone taking care of both. Damndest thing is there's still a lot of days I miss climbing up into that truck and heading out on the road for the day though I will admit on those subzero January February mornings I do pull those covers back over me and offer up a good humored well it sucks to be you today fellas to my former coworkers though God love em if they're in the area on a slow day they'll stop by for a quick check in and a how you doing. We used to sign "Hidden damages may exist" does that do anything?
@mikebennett703
@mikebennett703 Жыл бұрын
I drive LTL as well. "Hidden damages may exist" is basically the same as "Subject to inspection / tally" The only time that becomes a concern to the carrier is if there were external damage to the shipping materials. Torn shrink wrap, broken pallet, holes in box, evidence of stacking, indicators showing freight was tipped etc. Those remarks are made when damage is evident with the shipping materials but it is not feasable or possible to inspect the freight at the time of delivery. If there are no evident damages to the shipping materials, then any defective items become a concern for the shipper.

Nice video! I drive for Frontier in Manitoba. I do winnipeg P&D in the morning and then run 75 south to Rosenort, Morris, Altona, Gretna and then west to Lowe Farm, Plum Coulee, reinfeld, Winkler and Morden. I know what you mean about being on a route fresh and then after several months you are just bouncing in and out of places in minutes. Sometimes I have to thread a pretty tight needle because of where I got to back into..lol Do love the challenge though.

The LTL companies I've worked for forbid drivers to record (no personal dash cams or recording devices) any company related work. Don't know what the Estes policy is, but be careful...
