I had to call a customer tonight after I noticed a small hole in his window. I'm always up front and honest but, I do dread making the call. However, he thanked me for being honest but it had been broken well before he was a customer. I was so relieved. So far I've only got 1 window. First year in business and my trimmer picked up a rock and busted a french door. I never heard it break so I always wondered. That was a $350 lesson.

Another great video! I’m looking into getting surecans next season I’m glad to hear they took care of you. And mad respect for not arguing with the homeowner about the window. ✊💯 10th!!!! ☹️I’m late

Thanks man! Yeah I respect SureCan for doing that even though I explained it wasn’t necessary. They did mention they are coming out with a new product sometime late next year so we’ll see what that could be.

Another great video. In the six years we’ve been in business I’ve broken two pickup truck windows, both times it was my truck. (Good Times) this fall and winter We bought a three bag leaf collector for the Scag Turf Tiger, plus I’ll be hauling brush and doing property cleanup. Or working overtime for my full time job.

I would recommend to you to buy a shoot blocker. Most of us have broke glass before so learn from your mistakes. If I am near traffic areas the blocker stays down. If I am tight areas and there are chances of breaking glass or vynal. The shoot stays down. This will give you a foot to stand on when things happen like this. I had a guy say I broke a store front glass last season. The funny thing is I was on the opposite side of a two lane road with a ton of car traffic. So of course my SHOOT BLOCKER was down. So when he approached me to tell me . I instantly stopped the mower and showed him the SB and took a pic of. He was dumb founded. So I told him that it was 99% unlikely I broke the glass and said I was willing to go to court. I was that sure I was being scammed. Well about a month later a shop owner came out to tell me that the City lawn workers were the one who broke the glass and that I was right. They had NO SHOOT BLOCKERS on their machine and had no way to protest the claim. Lesson learned 👍 Preventive care works.

A chute blocker is one of my next purchases! I didn’t use the Wright on this yard. It’s a yard we mow on a military base so the gate is way too small for the Wright. I used the Honda and there’s no way for items to fling out from the mower. But I do hear ya and I’m listening. I want to wait for the GIE to see if there may or may not be new equipment.

Been there done that with a broken window. Junior broke a van window out while running his trimmer, of course with ear protection and he heard it when it happened so there was no doubt. Unfortunately this happened before we had insurance, but now we do have insurance. Walk throughs before and after are key. Unfortunately we did not do a pre walkthrough on a clean up last week and when leaving I noticed a small hole in vinyl siding on a customer's duplex, and I'm not for sure if we did it or not. It would have been where I was using a string trimmer and I totally did not hear or notice any rocks getting kicked up that would have caused it. Still waiting to see if the customer blames us, and we'll have that conversation if he brings it up, but I don't think we did it at all. There are kids at that duplex that ride razor scooters, and I wonder if one of those got rammed into the vinyl siding, causing the breakage.

Yeah we’ve done walk throughs in the past and even recorded with the customer’s permission, letting them know it’s moreso a liability thing of us in case something does happen. Lately though we’ve been getting complacent and haven’t been doing it and it’s starting to catch up on us. We’ve broken glass before and, in this case, I couldn’t see how it would’ve been possible for us to shoot a rock in the window. Either way, without proof it would’ve been my word against his and what’s more expensive? Paying for the breakage and moving on but also being more aware next time or fighting it, losing a customer and getting a bad reputation? I’d rather just pay and move on. Luckily we didn’t have to pay.
@ScoutLawnCare5 жыл бұрын
@@roadrunnerlawns So true. I have no problem paying, or turning it into insurance if it's an outrageous expense, but when I'm 95% sure we did not cause the damage, I prefer to lay out the facts. But when it comes down to it, if the customer feels we did it, I'll do my best to get it taken care of. I just need to be better about walk throughs, EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's easy to get complacent, and in a hurry, and forget, but it's something that has to happen. I'm guilty of not inspecting property, a LOT lately. Recording is a great idea, and I need to make a point of asking permission and recording more properties. Thanks for doing this video, it will help us all, to value our walk throughs.....
