Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, if you are in a position to, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL videos (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

I'm a cashier at a local supermarket and I have had two deaf customers in the last month alone come through my line. This may end up being super helpful.

I had a deaf customer yesterday and I was looking for customer service phrases in ASL, didn't expect to find one almost tailored-made for Costco workers! Thank you!

I have this wonderfully kind woman who comes into my store and I always wave at her. am I always feel horrible because I can't properly communicate with her and I am just guessing what she wants. She can mouth words and we read each others lips sometimes, but I think signing to her would be easier for both of us. Thank you for making these videos so I can communicate with ALL my customers.

heather martin I have the same problem, this kind woman comes in and we have to write on a piece of paper and I feel really bad. So I figured if I learn at least a little at first it'll help.

Debra, You've got my email address yes? (If not visit my contact page at: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/contact.htm ) We can develop a curriculum for a lesson on this. 20 sentences -- preferably questions. Example: 1. YOUR RING METAL WHAT? (Typical answers: GOLD, SILVER, fs-PEWTER, fs-PLATINUM, fake-[FALSE] WHITE-GOLD, ROSE-GOLD) 2. YOUR RING STONE WHAT? (Answers: diamond, fs-RUBY, ...) 3. MY RING CLEAN BEST HOW? (BRING-to JEWELER, fs-DISH+SOAP, SOFT TOOTHBRUSH,...) and so forth until we've reached 20 sentences. Then I can build a lesson out of that. So develop up with another 17 sentences that typically come up in the discussions regarding sales, repair, and gemology -- and email them to me. I'll see what I can do.

I’m trying to learn for a women that comes into the store where I work but it’s hard for me to follow when you are signing to others in between showing us the word(s). And can you caption what you are saying to the others

Kendra, Many of my videos are created with live audiences who paid to take the class. The "off-screen" interactions are just part of the local recording environment. I get paid for teaching "them" not for posting these videos. I post the videos as review for "them" not the public. Subscriptions went crazy and I decided to keep posting the videos and even make some videos more specifically for the internet audience. That doesn't take away from the fact that many of these videos could have simply been kept private or thrown away after the class was over. I figure I'd rather post them for whatever value people can get out of them. I'm not disagreeing with you that captioning would make it "easier" to understand the videos. I am however suggesting that if a viewer doesn't understand a video then the viewer should start with an easier video and work their way up. If you are watching this video without having first watched the videos at my channel for Lessons 1 - 45, the fingerspelling playlist, and a couple of the "Find Out Curriculum" videos -- that is the equivalent of someone taking an advanced math class without first having taken the prerequisite basic classes. So instead of "ME" captioning my video I would encourage YOU to go watch the more basic videos first and build up to this one. (Then it magically won't be hard any more.) That way if the woman coming into your store wants to have a real conversation with you about something more substantial than the superficial aspects of "being in the store" you will be able to have an even more meaningful interaction. Also, THANK YOU for being a kind and caring person. Lots of folks wouldn't even make the effort to try to learn.

When asking questions about specific signing in the video please include a time code such as 0:00 of the time at which the signing occurs in the video. Thanks. Why? It makes it easier and more efficient for me and/or others to respond to you without needing to hunt through the video to find the part to which you are referring.
