"Beamer" and "New cat dad" was heartwarming
@LazyIRanch2 ай бұрын
About 8 years ago, my son's black cat died that he had loved for 18 years. I tried to encourage him to adopt another cat, but he was too sad. We live out in the wilderness, off-grid. Our nearest neighbor is 2 miles away, and there's a small community about 6 miles away where I know folks. One day I was visiting a friend there and noticed she had some black kittens, about 4-5 months old and I asked if she wanted to rehome any of them. She said, "If you can catch one you can have it!" These cats were completely feral so I couldn't get near them. I did talk to them and tell them I'd love to have one come live with us. A few weeks later, she told me one of those kittens had gotten underneath her hood, but it escaped when she stopped at the stop sign to turn onto the mountain rd. to go to town. That intersection is about 4 miles from me. A few days later, a little black kitty shows up at our ranch, missing most of her tail and scared half to death! My son loves cats, so he spent all day with her outside until she got close enough to catch her. She was wild, but she learned to trust him and now she's the sweetest cat and she adores him. She's the cat he _needed_ as much as she needed him! I don't know how she found us, but I'm so glad she did. We figure her tail was probably chopped off by the car fan blade or it got caught in a belt.

We did a similar thing to our lead man. We got one of those massive zip ties and put it on the drive line if his work van. @@johnmorris8444 Belgium, but afaik most European countries have these inspections. Some on more regular intervals than others (I think in France it's only every 3 years, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) and how critical the inspectors are in their inspecting also differs a lot between countries (once again looking at you France with your cars with only one headlight). Most people here complain about these inspections, because they're about €40 nowadays and they can blow up small problems to failing the inspection (like angle of your headlights), but seeing some of the stuff in this video? Hooboyhowdy. There's cars in this video that would have three pages of things to fix before even attempting a re-inspection.

These videos amaze me. Over here, we have a compulsory six-monthly Warrant Of Fitness test that ALL vehicles MUST pass before they are deemed street legal. 99% of all these videos showing mechanical or serious rust issues, would have been rejected LONG before the state they are in now. If it is a structural issue, you have to take the vehicle to a certified panel-beater for the repair - structural WOF failures, you CANNOT just repair yourself, cos it has to be done by someone who knows how to fix a structural issue. Most of these vehicles are what I would classify as death-traps. I'm amazed there are not WAY more road deaths over there, cos you don't seem to have any kind of WOF testing at all. Amazing.

What a relief! One of our cats lost her tail from an accident. She was napping on the engine when the car's owner drove away. She escaped a few miles down the road, but her tail was chopped off by the fan blade or crushed by a belt. Instead of going back home, the kitty traveled another 4 miles to our house (where she'd never been before) where she cried for help. She was feral, so I couldn't get near her, but my adult son has the patience and deep love for animals and he refused to give up on her. 6 years later, she is so bonded to him she won't let him out of her sight, and she _never_ wants to go back outside. Scary stuff out there. My son is disabled due to severe schizophrenia, and he had recently lost his BFF, Puff, a big fluffy black cat who was his buddy for 18 years. My son was inconsolable and I couldn't talk him into adopting another cat. Before he buried Puff, he snipped some fur from the tip of Puff's tail and he put that in a tiny box he carried in his pocket.That's when Luna showed up, another black cat who needed him desperately! What a weird coincidence that she arrived here, missing the end of her tail and she's also a solid black cat. The cat distribution system is _real!_

@@blurglide - As a trucker? I was driving east on I-90 through a very flat and desolate part of South Dakota. About a mile ahead of me was another trucker that I had been following for an hour or so. Through the silence and hum of the road, a burst of light came from the truck ahead of me and was followed by a thunderous roar. I opened my eyes wide and slowed down to match his deceleration. The truck came to a stop and the driver opened his door and ran into the open field. I pulled to the side of the road and stopped my rig. As I jogged over to the other trucker, I surveyed the damage and noticed a perfect hole about ten feet wide was taken out of both the back of his cab and the front of his trailer. It was so strange to see this perfect sphere shaped 'bite' taken out of his rig and trailer. I called 911 and made sure he was okay and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived. He was so lucky, a few more feet and he there wouldn't have been anything left of him. He was just shaken up really bad. I still don't know what caused that explosion. At 5:06 there is a vehicle that was skewered by a guard rail. Some where out there is a guard rail that has been incorrectly installed because when properly installed this cannot happen. Guard are installed so the they lay like shingles on a rood of a house. You start installing them from the far end and work back against traffic. That way, the end of the first rail put in place is covered by the end of the second rail when it's put in place. The beginning of the guard rail when approaching it in traffic is normally curved down to the ground to deflect a vehicle or it has a curved cap on it which again overlaps the traffic end of the rail so there is no blunt end to hit. I worked for an outfit years ago that made and installed guard rails and installed miles of it. Occasionally we would be summoned out to reorient rails because they had been installed backwards by contractors that started at the wrong end.

Probably happened after crossing onto the wrong side of an undivided road!

there was a huge recall on bad guard rails years ago because of bad end caps that caused implement. problem is that the majority of road works dont keep track of where these end caps are installed so there are still plenty out in the wild.

This is why we need good public transit. Too many people are completely ignorant of how cars work and/or cannot afford to own and operate one safely.

You are so right... Imagine how much smoother that I-80 commute would be.😅 Please don't encourage the further dumbing down of so called adults by saying let's just NOT learn and be responsible for our vehicles.... let's just further tax/penalize others to haul them around.

0:50 I had something like that once during an internship. Young lady brought in a Cayenne talking about a rattle in the door that Porsche wouldn't fix. Our tech got in the car to pull inside, opened the door again, shut it, opened it, shut it, opened it, handed her a handful of change from the door-pocket and asked her to drive around the block to see if the rattle was gone. It was. At Porsche, she'd parked the car on the lot, taken all her stuff from it and handed over the keys, so obviously Porsche couldn't find the rattle after she'd walked off with it.
