@Tomas.X2 жыл бұрын
Welll...I was 18 when the GN came along, and it was a unicorn. It was weird (V6 turbo? WTF?) and wonderful (fast.) But at the time, there were fast American cars everywhere, in particular the Mustang GT (and the great LX notchback 5.0) along with the GM F-bodies, and even the GN's little brother, the turbo Regal. But at that time, turbos were NOT cool with the 'merican car club boys. Too euro, too Asian. The Mustang SVO was uber-cool, but no V8 meant nothin but hate. In this mix, the GN was a low volume oddball only true enthusiasts recognized. It by no means represented a return of 'merican muscle. Just a neat experiment GM signed off on. In fact, I knew "poor kids" that drove new Monte Carlo SS's who thought they were the shit and had no clue those monotone black Buicks were king of the hill. I drove a Grand Prix but did always prefer the Regal looks. Interesting to think what might have been if Pontiac got the GN treatment.

@@mickeyd4012 im saying the one shop that was king dick for GNs in the late 80s,90s and early 2000s. Conley was one of the first super fast turbo Buicks.....he went in the 7's (with a green car named "Tweaked") with the electronic fuel injection Turbo V6 based off the ones that came in the GN before anyone else did it. His accomplishments with the EFI turbo V6 in my opinion is probably in the same league as the late Buddy Ingersoll.

The 1987 Buick GNX was around $30000+ msrp back in 1987. By today’s dollar, that around $73000. So $45000 for a new Mustang GT is a better deal overall than it would be to buy a new GNX by today’s money. $73000 gets you a C8 Corvette which is a better car than the GNX would ever be. So fun cars are still out there and cheaper comparing when comparing the dollar back then to now.
@kirthooper46252 жыл бұрын
I know it feels like it, but that's not really the case. The GNX was about $65,000, adjusted for inflation, when it was new. Current starting MSRP for a new C8 Corvette is $61,000. Now, whether or not people have more disposable income these days to actually buy this stuff... .That could be debated for sure.
@MS-mr4zm2 жыл бұрын
Not reality whatsoever. We are living in the pinnacle of muscle/performance & it’s not even close. You realize while I type this you can buy a DODGE DURANGO 3 row SUV w/ AWD & God damn 710hp & a warranty that can tow friggin 9k lbs for around $80k? Now consider that adjusted for inflation a GN turbo back in late 80s was more like $75-80k+ a markup on top of that….

Then 4 months later it had a bad torque converter. my dealer sent the car out to a local transmission shop and I ended up with a lousy stock transmission that didn't chirp rubber any more. Then It started breaking up at high rpm. I left it with him for a month and he couldn't figure out how to fix it so I took it with him saying I shouldn't! Gave him the middle finger and went to another dealer. They fixed it the same day with a new distributor coil cap. Ran good again. They got me a new GN trans too all free! Ran it with High octane aircraft fuel and 21lbs of boost and slicks beating everything on the street I could find till someone stole it from me.
