Customize Cheap Trailer for 2 Motorcycles

Setup a cheap Lowes trailer to carry 2 motorcycles.

You can put as many fasteners as you want on that wood and chocks, but at the end of the day, the only thing that keep your bikes on that trailer is that weak chicken fence grating and the small welds which are holding it to the frame. I would recommend drilling through the steel cross members instead.

I made the pic of my trailer my profile pic so you can click into but it’s not the best angle. Anyway, some of the changes. With lumber being insanely expensive at the time, I just did 2 2x6 pieces of pressure treated for each bike because you need at least 9 inches or so of lumber width wise to attach the wheel chocks. And then I did one piece of lumber straight up the middle in order do attach the eye bolts. Not getting boards to do the entire floor saved me like 70 bucks in lumber. Just had to watch where u were stepping. The middle piece is what I had a small issue with. That one piece was the only board where all the pressure was being pulled upwards so the mesh floor was essentially being yanked off the frame the tighter the straps got. In order to solve this (I had the bikes loaded ready for a trip to the Oregon coast from northern Idaho) on the way out of town I grabbed a couple of U bolts to secure that middle piece to the frame and I had much more confidence in it. I took it on multiple long distance trips and moved to coast near the Bay Area, at which point I had to sell the trailer because of lack of space. got like 200 bucks less than what paid for everything so I essentially rented the trailer and all the equipment for like 6 months and a couple thousand miles for 200 bucks so I was still happy. Also those things rust a bit so idk if it would even last more than 8,000 miles or so without some serious upkeep. One thing I would certainly do is figure out a way to better protect the front of the bikes. I didn’t see anything major but I couldn’t help but feel like I was flinging rocks at em the entire trip. This trailer was pretty awesome tho especially if your bike are lightweight. With our 2 ninja 400s I’d say we were at around 1200 lbs which you can tow with almost anything. My girl pulled it with a jeep renegade no problem. Highly recommend doing it, it was fun!

Could you put a third wheel chock in the middle for carrying one bike?

Sure looks like enough to me. You couldn't carry 3, but it would load balance better with just one in the center.👍
