If this guy is a Full bird Colonel today he probably WAS Lieutenant Dan back when that movie came out. It takes about 20 years to get from 2LT to Colonel and Forrest Gump came out in 1994, 22 years ago. He was most likely "Lieutenant Dan" for at least 4 years before making it to Captain. You can get used reds for pretty decent prices. rigging them costs a bit, and if you have a pl mount, lenses can get pricy, but it is not out of the question to get a used one rigged for the price of a 5dm4 and a few good lenses. There are a few on eBay right now for about $4k. (you would need a power solution, lens, memory, monitor, rigging, mic, etc to even make it work).
