I think it'd be worth it for Casey to replace is GorillaPod periodically as he wears out the stiffness of the joints. Much cheaper than replacing the cameras as often as he ends doing. Plus I've found instead of keeping the legs straight when standing it up, bend each leg with a sharper angle so there is a bit of a joint and it doesn't tend to spread out so easy.

This isn't a commentary on how he treats his equipment. His explanations have made perfect sense to me for his approach and mentality. They are just tools. My comment was only suggesting the possibility of the GorillaPod aging and the angle of the legs. It's a relatively cheap tool to replace and it might be worth it to do more frequently.

That seems to be rather common for the GorillaPod Focus - I've seen other KZbinrs having the same problem. Strangely, it's really only the Focus - I own the SLR-Zoom, which doesnt have that problem, but instead the joints get incredibly stiff after a while -.- Also, the SLR-Zoom is already supposedly suited for up to 3kg, and the Focus for up to 5kg - so that can't be the problem either.

Casey from all the gear you buy every day - the least thing is a new bendy tripod I guess. These hinges get tired after a while and don't hold as good as the ones of a new Gorillapod. I have a bigger rig on this exact Gorillapod and it doesn't fall over, cause the hinges aren't as loose as yours. Just get a new one and you`ll be fine.
